I know some people who are lesbians and some who don't want sexual relations at all. But these students should get the vaccine anyway. Reason--in case they are raped! Better to be SAFE, even if you aren't planning on doing certain things.

I'm not sure if you mean just for lesbians, but HPV is transferable between a man and a woman as well, therefore a man can spread HPV to his female partners. Obviously the women are affected by it much more so than the men, but the fact is it is transferable between the sexes.
All women/girls should be vaccinated against the HPV virus, it is one of the few cancer causing viruses that we know a lot about and can prevent, why shouldn't they be protected? But it is personal choice, and you can not force someone to do it.

Actually, I'm a liberal and I still don't think the place for this is the Public School System. This is something they should do at 18 or older.
Sorry. But the school has enough on their hands getting people to Read and Write and do the Basics of Math these days, making them responsible for Health and Babysitting is just unreasonable and stupid. If a person doesn't understand or know what sexually transmitted diseases are and THEY ARE SEXUALLY ACTIVE, then I believe they in some ways deserve their Darwin Award.
Television if FULL of HPV, AIDS, Syphilis, and other commercials. To say these individuals don't know or understand is ludicrous. If they or their parents want them to have it, wonderful!!! But, the school is not the place to expect them to get it.

I still haven't decided on how I feel about the HPV virus vaccination.
But I can tell you one thing: it should be administered, or denied administration, to all girls; regardless of sexual orientation. Either all girls get it, or none of them do. Why would if a girl was a lesbian make a difference?

Finally an actual question that is both current and topical, many thanks.
Now, to the question at hand. Although it is true the majority of women who would be susceptible to HPV are heterosexual, it can and does occur to a smaller extent in Lesbians as well, even if they never had male companionship.
I believe in this case, you should err on the side of caution and get it.
Although I am male, I have 9 sisters, one of whom is Lesbian so I offer my opinion from that point of view.

The vaccine shouldn't be mandated in any case. This is another example where a "good idea" makes a lousy law, Big Brother run amok.

of course they should. it's a vaccine for a disease not a sexual orientation. and HPV isn't just transmitted from guys to girls.....so they should have to just like everyone else.

You didn't state whether or not cervical cancer is higher in women who are lesbians. If this is true, then I would definitely make sure that they get it. Even if this is true, all women should be vaccinated against it if it lessens their risk.

i dont think it would be correct to do that in public system like anything these days. they would have to give it to all girls, which i dont think there should be any arguements sounds like a good thing.... but i dont know the facts on this virus, if lesbians are a major carrier then those facts should be presented along with all the rest, to every girl

you don't have to be a lesbian in order to get cancer.
i think it is great if schools offer free vaccinations to all students. but i don't know about forcing students to receive vaccinations. this should be a decision between a student and her doctor. not a school board.
