wouldn't you only be allowed a sensible amount from your doctor. And how the hell do you become addicted to pain killers it isn't like you get a buzz from them or any effects like that.

I guess you're thinking of Anna Nicole Smith and Robbie Williams and that's why this question is in the Celebrities category. The term prescription drugs is a bit of a blanket term because it tends to make you think of a course of antibiotics but it's not, it's drugs such as barbituates, tranquillisers, amphetamines (speed) morphine, opiods, codeine, all of which do their job when properly taken. However the showbiz trend now seems to be 'mainlining' prescription drugs and that is when they break up the tablet or capsule and inject the contents into their body.

I know a war veteran who was injured in Saudi. He was put on pain killers and became addicted. He checked his self into rehab. His Dr. told his family there is a gene, some people have, some don't. That gene determines if some one becomes addicted. I don't believe any one wakes up one day and just decides to become an addict. Any way, this person is now clean and living a very responsible life. Obama acknowledged that he used drugs in the past. The past doesn't matter. NOW is what matters. Obama wants to run this country. Cindy isn't running for presidency.

It means just that, you are addicted to them. A sensible amount of any painkiller that is prescribed by your doctor is the amount you need to relieve the pain and it varies from petient to patient. However once you start using painkillers and have used them for a long time and try to stop you can get angry and depressed and feel very low. You then keep taking the pain killers as this relieves the stress.

Some people have addictive personalities & can become addicted to certain prescription meds like vicodin, codiene, oxycotin, etc. Apparently they can give you the same high feeling as some illegal drugs can. You should be prescribed only a certain amount from a reputable physician & then monitored, since these are considered controlled sustances. Unfortunately, there are other ways to obtain these meds just as there are ways to obtain illegal drugs .

Your body gets used to having the drug in your system, whether its illegal or prescribed, and some are more addictive than others unfortunately.

It means someone is psychologically dependent. Sleeping pills and anti-depressants are not physically addictive, but a person can become psychologically dependent on them, that is, their 'addiction' is unconscious and subliminal.
