My husband and I have NEVER once been together on his birthday. This is year 5 and with his military career it just always seemed that he was gone or something happened to prevent us from being together. His birthday is the 17th and I really want to do something extra special for him. That normally wouldn't be a problem because I've had 5 years to plan...but we found out that our friends are throwing us a baby shower that day. They had no idea that it was his birthday also, and its the only time they could do it because I'm about ready to pop. I asked the hostess if I could bring a cake for him, but I keep hearing that its a shower not a birthday party and you only give birth to your child once, and he'll have other birthdays...blah blah blah. So basically now I have to figure out what I can do for him. I don't want him to feel left out so I just need a couple simple ideas that I could do for him to make his day.
(p.s) we can't change the date of the shower

What time is your shower? I'm assuming it's in the afternoon or morning? If so, then you can do something fun for your husband for breakfast. Make him breakfast in bed, decorate your room, and just make the house festive for him. Or give him an "anything goes" early present and tell him whatever he wants is his (within reason, since you're pregnant, lol). Or you could get tickets for a sporting event of some kind if it takes place in the evening. Or go to his favorite place for dinner and have a quiet dinner together. Or you could throw a surprise party for him at your house.

I wouldn't change the date of the shower, but sometimes adults have to realize that their birthday is really only special to them and those who really love them, and celebrating on the actual date is sometimes impractical. What I would do is tell him on his birthday that you've planned something special for the 2 of you, but that you obviously can't do it on his birthday. Maybe get him a card and make a coupon for whatever you want to do for him, redeemable on the 16th, 18th, whenever. Either that, or you can have a birthday celebration for him on his birthday, but during lunch, or whenever the shower isn't. I mean, it's not an ALL DAY shower, is it? Good luck with whatever you decide, and happy birthday to your hubby! May he have many more!

if u want 2 do something 4 ur husband's birthday then something extra special. get him something that he really wants. he might not like spending his birthday alone either so keep that in mind. dont stop trying and try to make a birthday that he will remember.

sounds like you may be giving him the best gift he will ever recieve, his child....other than that, just being together should be gift enough...after the baby is born, take him out for a nice dinner or something...congrats on the new arrival...and bless your hubby for being a true American, and keeping us safe and free....
