No one really knows the reason.
All answers are just speculation. One is based on the idea that Ichigo (the main character, for those who haven't watched the series) had really bleached his hair to make it orange.
Another idea (one i go for) is that when a Hollow is slain, it's not really dead, but has been "purified" and sent to Soul Society. Bleach, like Clorox kind, gets rid of stains and cleans the clothing of color, which could be used metaphorically to relate to Shinigamis' jobs as "purifying" and "ridding" Hollows of the stains upon their souls.
Those are some fairly popular ideas. I can't remember all the other ones.
Hope this helps ^.^
~**Mischief**~
P.S.
Once again:
IT'S ALL SPECULATION. There really isn't any one answer, unless we personally ask Kubo Tite.

Dont know why they say no one knows the reason. An issue of shonen jump specifically explains that the title was from an albulm that Nirvana did.
http://www.amazon.com/Bleach-Nirvana/dp/B0000035E7/sr=1-6/qid=1171490870/ref=sr_1_6/105-6316870-8698039?ie=UTF8&s=music
Tite Kubo is a big music fan. And he decided to name it Bleach because that nirvana albulm was one of his favorites. If you havent also noticed in the early episodes of Bleach. You can see alot of other music references as well. In fact, his characters were most likely been created as inspirations from certain music that he was listening to while thinking of them. He did this for his early manga "Zombie Powder".

Because the word SOAP was already used a few years ago. Same with SHAMPOO. The main reason was the censors said to clean up the show, or not air it.

its because when the shinigamis slay the hollows, they are purifying it. thats why the show is called bleach. BLEACH, purification.
n i also want to add this. if u are a true BLEACH fan, NEVER EVER EVER watch bleach in dubbed. i saw it on cartoonnetwork b4 and it was SOOO BAD. voices sucked for every single person and they cant even pronounce the names right. watch it in subbed in jap. original.

bleach is called bleach because 'bleache' means soul in japanese.since ichigo is a soul reaper, they named it bleach short for 'bleache'.
