There is truly "nothing new under the sun". The tradition which you describe used to be very popular a couple of generations ago. However, instead of Valentine's Day, this tradition was practiced on May 1st. (known as MayDay). It was the custom for children to make up small May baskets filled with goodies. Then, they would sneak up to a neighbor's house, set it by the door, and knock or ring the doorbell.
Sadly, I'm afraid such innocent times are lost forever. That would require folks to think of others instead of self-preening all the time.

Lol I've been doing that for the past 5 years. I've done different things instead. The first year I bought a pack of cupcakes lol, and ate them alone (ahhh gasp!) on Valentines afternoon while relaxing watching movies and having a fun day. One year I went out with a close friend and we bought a huge pizza and laughed at all the 'couples' who were there.

I say we should start the tradition, and to heck with the nay-sayers! I'm going to do the mayday thing. I think it's a beautiful idea. Even though I don't have kids, I do have kids in my life, and I think it would be fun to drop off goodies to neighbors and friends and spread some love, instead of walking around with a "gimme gimme" attitude! Three cheers for Dragon!

Its a good thought but you might end up with candy wrappers from Halloween or you'll end up with nasty Halloween candy. That and here its a bit cold to be going from house to house!

Would you really trust a kid to give out good candy? I would not if I were a kid.

That is a very nice idea, Dragon. When I was small, we used to deliver our Valentines door to door in our neighborhood.

Cat thinks there'll be a whole lot of kids who are 'too old for it' now. They weren't at halloween...but now they are.
