if the universe is not infinite but is simply expanding and has boundaries, what could the universe sit in, and is this evidence of some greater power, something that is powerful enough to hold the universe, or even create it?

and why do i continue to smoke weed to the point that i think about crap like this so much that i even forget about doing other things, like being productive, or even simply moving?

We have no way of identifying the reference topology upon which the Universe is expanding. We have clues from string theory and parallel universe theories but all of these are mathematical constructs of group theory. Most of the guys that sit in East/West coast theorerical physics departments are smoking weed just to be able to deal with the complexities of the issue.

Good question Amigo. i have no idea why you continue
to smoke weed. It is surely killing your brain bit by bit.

Hey, as far as a greater power is concerned, dig this...
There is some pretty hot stuff here on Earth. I mean, you know, there's molten lava, welding machines, cutting torches, industrial ovens, smelting furnaces and all kinds of stuff like that. But, the max temperature we can work up is something like maybe 10,000 Degrees F. Hey, plus or minus some...

The temperature of the Sun's core where massive fusion is going on all the time is reported to be 27,000,000
Degrees F. Now, I don't know all this junk about higher power and all that stuff, but 27 Million Degrees F is something like one huge, cotton picking bar-b-que. Now
if you insist on worshipping something, why not pick something neat like that big bar-b-que in the sky. There sure isn't anything any bigger close by. I get warm when it comes up into the sky, and cold when it goes down out of sight. That is good enough for me. It is like the Nuke of all Nukes...The big Kahunna in the Sky...

Toke 1 for us dude...

Space is not just "nothing" but an actual entity that is expanding as it creates more of its own space as the Universe expands. What it is expanding into, no one knows for sure. But a new theory, called M theory, postulates a 5th dimension full of branes that when they collide create a new universe. This dimension may be what we are expanding into. You might want to check out String theory or M theory.
