I am worried about where these ants could be coming from. I found 4 today in my bathroom and 1 in my kitchen. Do I need an exterminator?

My first question to you would be are these ants Carpenter ants?
Do you know the difference? Carpenter ants come into the house to eat wood. They live within the walls and are destroying material as they go. Do you have a wood burning stove and you have brought extra wood into the home for burning and the ants have come from the wood? There are many types of ants and they need cover, water, and food for survival. Do you have animal dishes down on the floor? Everything needs water to survive. If you keep seeing ants I suggest you find out what kind of ants they are and call for an extermnator if they are carpenter ants.

Did you leave anything sweet or sugary out with it covered up? The ants might be attracted to that when they're scouting around for food and stuff.

I don't think you need to panic so much as to get an exterminator but I think you can get some ant poison. Just lay it down where the ants appear the most and it shold work.

Something like that happened to me once. I was doing this experiment, making sugar crystals or something, then the ants started coming so I took away the experiment stuff and put the poison down and later on they disappeared.

You dont need an exterminator. Its not a tumor lol. The ants are inside because it is warm. I had the same problem in an apartment i lived in. Get those ant traps. The poisoned disks. Becareful if you have children or animals though. If you watch them you might be able to see where they are coming from. Use raid if you find the source. Other wise just poison them, it soumds like an easy prob to fix, if you start soon.

We have a wood burning furnace in our house and I’ve noticed that for a week or two after bringing in wood for the furnace, I’ll find ants (in the bathroom too – crazy!). Then they’ll peter away and about a month or two later, there’ll be more ants even though we haven’t brought in any more wood.

Well, turns out the first invasion was the ants who thawed and then invaded. The second wave was the ants who hatched and then invaded. Super icky. Anyways, my ants didn’t find any food and eventually died (or got flushed).

If this sounds like you, then maybe spray your wood pile with Raid or don’t bring so much wood in at once or use your wood up right away.

Well, if I were an ant, and it was 20 degrees outside, with snow - I'd be inside your house too.

What's for dinner?

Some ant traps put around should take care of it, especially if you get the kind where they take the poison back into the tunnels. Resist the temptation to kill the ants when you see them, in that case - you want them to take the poison back to the rest of the group.

If you brought a plant in the house from being outside last summer---check it out---that could be where the ants are coming from--the dirt in the plant. I brought plants in in the East and one had little lizards and the other ants--so I would move the lizards to the ant plant and let them feed for a bit and put them back---they all made it thru the winter. If they are driving you crazy just move them around with your finger and they will lose their scent trail and get lost and die.

Try the ant traps. The ones they go in and take the food back to their nest. We had quite a bad ant problem. Used those, and we never saw them again.

They are coming from outside. They will always go where it is warm. Check around your bathroom fixtures and also your kitchen. Check in all the walls, doors, windows and if you have a fireplace check there. All it takes for them to get inside is a tiny crack or hole.Seal up anywhere there is any openings including your basement and attic. This will also help you on your heating bill. Good luck.
