hi there :)
based on my experience I did not give any citrus juice's before my baby was 1 year old and the reason was that there is a high possibility that a baby can be allergic.

Your baby at six months has the necessary digestive enzymes to handle OJ. Some juice is fine.
As I see it, the main problem with juice is not the acid or allergic reactions, but that many toddlers drink large amounts of juice from a bottle. Poor nutrition and bad for the teeth. Don't use a juice bottle as a pacifier.

Our pediatrician said only apple juice, prune juice, and white grape juice. I was told that the orange juice (and oranges) are a no-no until over a year... I think that was actually one of the reasons - OJ being so acidic. I would stay away from it. My son is 5 months old and I don't plan on introducing it until he is a year old...

Excerpt from website:
My in-laws are watching my 5-month-old son while I work. I just found out they've been giving him a dab of juice from an orange. (They say he likes it.) Isn't it bad to give a baby that young something as acidic as orange juice?
5 months is early for citrus foods, including orange juice. They are a common cause of allergies and rashes. It is usually best to delay them until at least 9 months to prevent later problems -- even if kids like the taste.
**** Personally, I say that if you ARE going to give your baby O.J. to yes, water it down half and half, but I would buy Tropicana's Low Acid orange juice. It doesn't have any pulp which is good too. ****

The way I understand it is no citrus juices until 1 year old. Although I just searched for "child age orange juice" on the internet and found one site that said hold off until 9 months if there's a family history of allergy, which I guess means you could give it to a child younger than 9 months if there is not allergy history.

The asborbic acid in orange juice is actually vitamin c so it's not really harmful (it's actually a good thing!). Vitamin C is important in keeping a healthy immune system, especially during cold and flu season.
It's fine to give him orange juice at this age. Make sure to water it down first.

I give my 6 month old mixed fruit juice which has oj in it. If you dr says it ok then I would think that it would be fine. If you are really worried about the citric acid then just mix it with half water

That's odd, because I was just reminded by my pediatrician at my son's 9 month check up last week that orange juice is a NO until they are at least a year old, as are honey, strawberries, and peanut butter. I"m suprised your ped said that!
