I would love to live near the ocean, and the houses there seem to be a decent price.

The water is very clean--its no Mediterranean...and it is slightly cloudier than the water in the Southeastern states...just due to the temperatures and things like that. Virginia Beach is a great place to live. I grew up there (birth-high school) and my parents still live there so I constantly visit. The weather is nice--very nice hot summers...and usually pretty mild winters...

If you're trying to live "AT" the beach...I would recommend not living at the strip -- the "tourist" beach....Unless you're living in a nice condo or wwaaayyy at the northend.

On the expensive end there's Croatan (south of the tourist beach) with some crazy nice houses...

I would recommend more of the Sandbridge area....less tourist-y and close to lots of things to do...If you're not living at the beach there are some nice areas out there...but definitely look around...while Virginia Beach is extremely low crime...there are a few places that are a bit shadier than the next...

They have really cleaned up the beach and added a lot of nice things there. The water is very clean. If you are thinking of moving there why don't you spend a week-end there and check it out there are a lot of nice places to stay.

A bit of seaweed, but otherwise clean. The beach itself can be dirty (garbage etc) because of large urban population using the beaches... this is first-hand info from a lifeguard!
