its a system so that some countries wont be in dark at 12:00pm. It consists of 24 time zones. Each have neighbors and the one west to it is 1 hour behind, the one in front of east is 1 hour in front. This is what causes jet lag. In the past, when they had the concord, you could travel back in time. The flight took 4 hours but New York is 7 hours behind the UK so you would arrive there 3 hours before you even traveled, if that makes sense.

It's when we turn the clocks ahead 1 hour. This gives us more daylight at the end of the day. If it's 6:00 pm and the sun goes down, and you turn the clock ahead 1 hr, then tomorrow the same daylight is ocurring at 7:00, so you have an extra hour to do your thing in daylight. This year we turn the clocks ahead in March and then back in Nov.
I think it was invented to give farmers in the last century more daylight in the spring to finish planting their crops.

Day light saving time is the use of the extra sunlight hours we have in summer. Farmers don't like it because they carnt get the cattle to look at the time.
