The owner called today every probably getting her bills mailed from me & stated she is thinking about closing the business in 6 months. Because our overhead is bigger then what were bringing in. This is not the first time she has made this statement. She said it twice before & the general manager talked her out of it. Our number in business has dropped for at least a year now. And there are about 36 other competing companies. This is not the only office but were doing the worse. And this is the first time that she said 6 months. It takes a good two months for someone to learn my job and do it right. Would you look for another job and take it now. Or stay around to see what happens. Im thinking about getting a overnight job and holding on to it until I see what she decides to do. The next time she might not mention and tell us at the last moment. I know everytime has been commented on by just pure fustration. But i am considering the fact that I have been warned.

For warned is for armed.

You have been given vital information, use it to your advantage.

It is easier and more comfortable to get a new job while you are still employed. Psychologically it is more reassuring to work where you have a sense of job security.

For now take the time to brush up the resume work on that cover letter. Improve your skill set and post that resume on Monster.com and see who bites.

Don't be concerned about how long it will take to train your replacement because if she closes the business she won't give you two months notice and there won't be a need for a replacement.

I'd start looking for another job now.
You don't have any job security where you are, so I'd look right now, while you have a job still, and when you find something better, take it and start right away.
Either way, you don't want to work yourself to death between two jobs just because you don't know when one is going to end. Just act like they WILL be closing soon and get on with your life rather than wait until the last minute when it could hurt you financially.

You should start looking for a new job now. Your boss may not be that serious about closing the business, but then again she may not have a choice -- it sounds like the business is failing and due to all the other competition, it's likely that it will eventually close anyway. Better to start looking for a new job now.

It doesn't sound too promising in the job security area. Mabe you can possibly network to see if a similar job is available in the area, if not with another competitor. It is always good to have a backup in cases such as these. You are obviously doing well in the pre-planning stage. I wish you the best of luck.

I would go ahead and seek another job, but don't quit until you get another job...my father just went through the same situation and he stayed with the company, and sure enough New Years Day he found out he was out of a job.
