I'm wanting to coat a map with contact paper and use a dry erase marker to map out routes for my drivers. Will that work or if not any suggestions? Maybe laminate?

My experience with soft plastics and dry erase is not good.
In a number of cases, it has become permanent or semipermanent (leaving behind a haze of color) Hard plastics like laminate seem to work. White boards are basically laminate. Plexiglas for some reason does not. Also the longer the stuff stays on the harder it is to take off. A school situation where it is erased at the end of the class is best.

Your surface needs to be very slick and smooth - plastic lamination works well, I have a laminated calendar on the fridge that we've used for years and it erases perfectly. If the clouds are too big for this, you could use white Coroplast or Filmoplast corrugated plastic, this works well too.
