my first trip to the eye doc was in second grade, and i hated my glasses! i felt so dorky. i got contacts in junior high & for years that's all i would wear in public. i'd wear my glasses only when at home in the evenings. but i recently got a pair of glasses that i love love love---they are a goldish color & almost blend in w/ my skin tone, so they're very subtle & i feel comfy wearing them anywhere.

I first got glasses when I was 12 & I am now 56. I wear them all the time except when I sleep. I was a little self concious in the beginning too because some of the kids in school called me 4 eyes but I got through it. And these days glasses come in so many different styles & are more common than you might think. Some of the kids may have contacts but if they take them out they still have bad eyesight. Hold your head up high & wear your glasses proud & before you know it you'll be used to them.

I've been wearing them for many years. I think I got mine first in like the 7th grade or something. I felt all self-concious and dopey, but then I felt better after a few of my friends and a couple of teachers in classes that I liked said I looked smart in them.

Look around you and in news print and media. There's a lot of people that wears glasses and look good in them. It's not the glasses. It's the frame and the style. Each face is slightly different and look good in different frames so there's no universal advice on what will look good on you. Try a whole bunch and see what you like. If you can manage, bring your friends to help see you when you try them on. They can help find something that you look great in. I personally stay away from crappy plastic ones and go for the wire frame ones. They are more delicate and thin, but they go well with a girl's features. Even wire ones come in a whole array of shapes, sizes, and colors, so you will just need to try a bunch to find a good looking style. Hopefully you don't pick out three $250 frames. Your parents probably won't like that too much.

Listen Jenny. First, I never met a girl in glasses that didn't turn my head.
I got glasses in elementry school. I can't picture life without them. But even before I started wearing glasses, I liked girls in glasses.
Look be happy you can see clearly. The worid is a beautiful place. It's even better when you can see it.

Here are a couple of suggestions. Get glasses that match your hair, eyes and skin. The glasses that you choose should not cover you eyebrows.
And when you're wearing your glasses, always smile.

3rd grade, and I still wear them to this day. I remember feeling embarrassed at first, until I learned to embrace them as part of who I am. I needed them to see, so I figured I would start picking frames to match my style, and try to look my best in them.

The trick to wearing glasses it to make them a part of your style. People have a hard time picturing me without my glasses because they are a major feature of my face. Be sure to pick the right color, style, shape, etc. to match your face structure and skin tone, as well as your personal style. Usually the people at the optometrist will help you out with this, but bring a friend or somebody you trust to be honest, just in case.

If you're still self-conscious about your glasses, though, there are other options, such as contact lenses, and corrective surgery. Contact lenses are a heck of a lot harder to take care of, and can be lost easily, and corrective surgery is expensive. But it's your choice. There's no reason to be self-conscious about your glasses. You have them for a reason, and they can be a great emphasis on how good you look!

Hope that helped!

I was very self concious. But just like anything else, like a new haircut, braces, etc. you will feel comfortable within a few days. Just be prepared with your confidence come-backs, because people are always ready to tease change.

I love my glasses! Just be confident in them. Glasses can make you look geeky or chic. The only difference is HOW you wear them. Wear them with pride!

i felt fine about it. my first glasses were ok looking because my aunt bought them for me but as you get older and have your money to spend on them you can get some really nice frames. I bought myself some great chanel frames last year and get complimented every day! you will be fine once you get used to it, don't worry about it! think of your glasses as a great accesory to wear every day!
