How do you become a debutante? I've always wanted to be one...but I don't know how, or where to start. I live in Maryland if that helps.

I'm definitely not rich, and we are not in the upper class. That's not what I want to be in it for. I can still be myself and go to a ball. I just want to know where to start.

Heres the definition:

A debutante (or deb) (French word for "female beginner") is a young lady from an aristocratic or upper class family who has reached the age of maturity, and as a new adult, is introduced to society at a formal presentation known as her "debut" or "coming out." Originally, it meant the young woman was eligible for marriage, and part of the purpose was to display her to eligible bachelors and their families with a view to marriage within a select upper class circle. This traditional event varies by region, but is typically referred to as a debutante ball.

By your own comments, you indicate that you are not from an upper class family.

Thus, you cannot be a debutante.

I'd love to be King of Monaco, but it ain't in the cards no matter how well I can dress up like him for halloween

I'm sorry to say but to be a traditional true debutante you have be born in a rich, upper class family. Maybe if you're lucky you can marry rich and be a debutante;)

The first thing you need to become a deb is for your family to have lots and lots of money, belong to all the 'right' clubs, have all the 'right' friends, and be in the 'upper class' of society.

Honey, you don't 'need' to be deb, just be yourself and I'm sure you'll make lots of friends who will love you for who you are, not the size of your bank account or who you know.
