Yes, but not right now because there is war. Originally, there was only supposed to be taxes during war. Now we are taxed all the time. No taxation without representation! What happened to the Constitution? What happened to the freedom in America; the American Dream?

Let me put it this way - the founding fathers included a clause in the Constitution explicitly forbidding income taxes precisely *because* they knew from history that it would be abused to create an increasingly large and tyrannical government. The 16th Amendment was created by those who had forgotten, or more likely chose to circumvent, that fundamental caution.
Granted, as scams go it doesn't hold a candle to Social Security, but it's still contrary to the original intent of the nation's founders.

There are some that say that the income tax is not legal or unconstitutional or is voluntary, but none of these are true. The IRS website has information with references and court cases to back up the income tax as legal.

Now, the current state of events of the tax law is a different story. The tax code needs some major overhaul. It is a complicated, convoluted, byzantine quagmire that seems designed to trap people.
A person said that we have "taxation without representation". Do even understand what that phrase is? We have taxation and we have representation. You can vote. You can vote for your representatives. That particular phrase erupted in the Revolutionary War in regards to England imposing new taxes on the colonies without allowing the colonies to have any say in it. If you do not want the income tax then elect a represenative who agrees with you and has a solution for the problem.

When a Federal income tax was first introduced to Congress, it was voted down as unconstitutional. It still is. However, a 1% federal income tax was later introduced and enacted to help finance a war. Now, over a 100 years later....

That depends entirely on weather you enjoy your freedom and the society that we live in. With out funding the government would collapse and another government that was not afraid to tax would instill itself and impose its rules.
Ultimately we have it good right now, the highest tax bracket is 35% as opposed to the upper 70's in the past and the 102% marginal rate imposed on the highest incomes in some other countries

It may not be what it should....but you best better believe this, you must pay your income taxes or go to debtors prison. And I say that will no smile on my face as the Dem's dig deeper for more and more money to line their pockets, they will come after anyone that owes any amount and they will see to it that you pay .
