The left has deigned that global warming is a fact and that it is human induced and they want no further discussion. Its all about control my friend. The more reliance from big Gov that directly influences or effects your life the better. I remember not long ago the republican administrations were continuously pummeled by the left over letting secondary growth buildup in our forest without some type of cut management. Leave it along we were told by the preservationists. Result....Huge out of control forest fires sprang up all over the country after 20 years or so...even past leadership of such organizations as the sierra club admitted they made a dreadful error. But it sure was too late for the woodlands. OR how about the assertions from the so-called experts in the seventies about only 20 yrs of oil left. Now they have figured out there are at least 120 yrs of the stuff left in Saudi alone. The problem is we won't know for 200 years whether it is human induced or a natural cycle that has been recurring for millions of years.

1: I didn't see the movie. I don't care what it says.
2: Scientists also say that it is changing now at a much faster rate than in any previous situation they could conjecture. This means that while there may have been changes in climate in the past, it has never changed as quickly as it is changing now. Which means humans are causing it, and the changes could be unprecedented, drastic, and will (and have) cost many human lives.
3. What movie did you watch to become an expert on ice ages?
It is a political topic because the only way to solve it is through legislation and funding research in new technology. It may not be the huge issue people make it out to be, but PEOPLE ARE DYING. I'm appalled that the right makes such a big deal out of it, because coming up with new technology, running cars on alternative fuel sources, and installing some filters in the factories is NOT A BIG DEAL. It's necessary that we change our ways and it's not that hard to do if we can just agree to do it.
Edit: New, clean technology is a good thing and can stimulate the economy. The big auto manufacturers may not like it (and the oil companies will hate it but screw them) but I'm sure the auto manufacturers will see rises in sales as people buy green cars, it will certainly create more jobs, and if the taxpayers are willing to fund the research on the new technology, the automakers can just build the cars and reap the rewards. It's just something we need to do, and the longer we wait, the harder it's going to be on everyone, so let's get it done.

If humans are causing the global "warming" we all here so much about, than we must also be responsible for the global "cooling" of the 70's and 80's. I think we should just alternate years and let the warming and cooling equal out. If people would realize what the greenhouse gasses actually were(ie. the biggest percentage of greenhouse gas is water vapor), they would realize that while mankind contributes, Mother Nature shoulders the majority of the load. One volcano alone contributes an awful lot of "pollution" to the atmosphere. I'm not saying mankind isn't contributing but it is rather arrogant to assume the water levels and polar ice caps will remain exactly how we want them to. These things have cycled for millenia and will continue to cycle no matter what we do. Just because it is an inconvenience for mankind to adjust does not mean all of the chicken littles out there are right. I believe there just is not enough data to support any conclusions right now. The time frame is just too narrow.

1. Don't tell me to stop.....tell the Earth to stop!
2. Agreed. The Scientists who say they are an authority on this did more than watch a movie.
3. Who cares whether Man caused it or not, the question is does it exist and what to do about it.
4. The left is NOT using it as a political topic.....the RIGHT is. What would be the benefit of inventing something that isn't true? It's about saving the EARTH....not politics.
5. Fair enough to disagree with what should be done, how much damage Global Warming can cause, what might happen. Ridiculous to say that SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE of Global Warming is some far-left conspiracy. To accomplish WHAT exactly?????

I honestly don't know where to begin on this....but yes, the earth has gone through climate changes before...but it is the *magnitude* of the change that is occurring now that has many scientists concerned. Listening to a talk radio or 'junkscience.com' is also a lazy way to learn about a topic.

They used to grow wine grapes in England in the Roman days when it was warmer there.
http://www.cgfi.org/cgficommentary/time-cover-story-offers-no-evidence-of-human-driven-warming
The Romans grew wine grapes in England in the 1st century, during the Roman Warming. Then, during the Dark Ages, Britain was too cold for grapes.
The Britons themselves grew wine grapes in England in the 11th and 12th centuries, during the Medieval Warming. The Domesday Book, compiled right after the Norman Invasion of 1066, records more than 70 vineyards. During the following Little Ice Age, London held ice festivals instead of wine tastings.
It's not warm enough yet during the Modern Warming for a British wine industry, but the grape growers are succeeding two years out of ten-and hopeful.

I don't know what movie you are referring to, but yes, our planet is long overdue for an ice age, which should make the current warming trend and drastic weather changes more alarming to people. I know most americans are ignorant, but even they should be able to see that things are going terribly wrong with our planet. It's devastating to anyone with any intelligence, or with kids, to see the selfish insistence on remaining blind to the problem so many americans have, especially since they are the biggest cause of the problem.

Where are these mysterious "scientists" that proclaim that global warming is caused by man? I keep hearing "many" and "most" but I never see any real names or numbers. I don't think that the conflict is that the globe is getting warmer, anyone experiencing a Midwest or deep south summer would swear to it. The real question is can we do anything about it? Probably not... man is nothing more than a flea on the rear of a camel compared to the earth and mother nature's ability to pollute the atmosphere.

Global warming should not be a political topic. The ice caps are melting. This is measurable and has been measured. What part of low albedo don't you understand?
