IMO escalation will ignite a major offensive campaign and as a consequence violence in the slums of Baghdad will increase dramatically over the next few months, Igniting something on the order of the Tet offensive in the Viet Nam era.
Surely the Administration must realize this outcome is likely so what in the Hell are they really up to here?
20,000 troops could make a difference on a conventional battle field but they are likely to add up to mass confusion and more targets in the mayhem of dedicated hit and run terrorists creeping around their back yard slums.

So is this a ploy to gain financial support to thread the war into Iran?

If what you say is true, than why did Al Sadr flee to Iran ?
Perhaps to avoid capture or assassination, a dead General isn’t a very effective one.

The idea is for Bush and his neocon cronies to avoid responsibility. As should be clear from the recent news, they are trying to set Iran up as the scapegoat to excuse the failure of the surge.

BTW--theere is another tactic the insturgents might use--just lay low until the surge is over--then attack with renewed intensity. But I agree, the "TET" scenario is more likely.

They have already reacted.

Both Al Qa'ida and Muqtada al Sadr fled Baghdad several weeks ago. The story of al Qa'ida leaving came out two weeks ago, the story of Muqtada al Sadr leaving came out yesterday.

So much for liberals who think we're losing. The terrorists know the truth.

They will fight harder & try to defend their ground. That is how war works. I realize that our biggest threat & enemy to our military is within the US borders. They call themselves liberals & Democrats. The only benefit the ANTI American forces have are they play by no rules & their supports stand with them win or lose a battle. As a mother of an US Army Ranger & Officer, I wish I could say that of my fellow Americans but sadly I can not.
