He has white/yellow lesions down his back. I am getting so frustrated because I cant figure out what it is. I've had him for 2 years and he's not doing good. I've done so much research and theres just too many things. It's not ich, I dont think its fungus because it not cotton-like, someone mentioned velvet, but it didnt look like the pics that I researched. Maybe its a parasite? At first i use Melafix but nothing happened it just got worse. Someone said to use Malachite Green, but when I went to Wal-mart the only medicine containg it was Ich away. So thats what Im using now, wondering if it will work. how long should I put it in my tank. The bottle says for all external parasites and fungus. I need an expert!

Lesions are usually caused by a barcteria infection, but can be from parasites as well. Malachite green is a good treatment for most parasites so if that is the cause you are on the right track. A little more information couls help nail this down and get you r fish cured. Look closely at the lesions and see if they appear to be places eaten away into the fish. If so that is probably a bacteria infection. If there is any way you can get a picture of the problem area that would be a big help too. Please add any additional information about the lesions to your post or send me a message and I'll try my best to help you and your fish.

Any chance you could post a photo of your fish showing the lesions? Maybe that would help with diagnosis.

try some aquarium salt in a hospital tank...follow instructions on container. seriously, aquarium salt, in small doses can act as a healer without the problems u get with chemicals. most fish (not skin fish like the catfish tho) benefit from a small amount of aquarium salt anyway.

GO TO A FISH STORE!!! Walmart has no specifics nor quality products.
Take your fish with you. My redtail is 10 years old, and I cherish him. Did "Walmart" sell this special fish to you? No. Go to a quality fish store.
