Had morning sickness until my 5th month. I stayed away from any Italian place because of the smell of parmesan cheese; also hated chicken and orange juice. I lived off of Pepsi (caffeine free, of course), Ginger Ale, saltines, ginger snaps, and anything salty. Many mornings I had potato chips for breakfast. Finally I talked to my doctor about it and she prescribed medication to help. Life was good then. I didn't actually vomit many times, but stayed nauseous. Trust me, it was better to vomit because then I didn't fell badly. And it wasn't at all like having a virus.

First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy!
1) "Morning sickness" isn't the worst thing ever, but it can actually be more like "all day sickness" for some women, like it was for me. I was living in Providence, RI, for the first trimester of my pregnancy and had pretty severe all day sickness the whole time, although I only vomitted once. A change in temperature can have an effect too, such as being outside in the cold air and then going into a warm house or building. All women are different, so you may not have any sickness at all.
2) Pregnancy sickness to me seemed more like a "throat" vomity feeling rather than any kind of stomach flu or anything like that. I always felt like I had a lump in my throat. What really helped me what to drink gatorade because the salt content in it helps morning sickness according to doctors. Whenever I felt like I was going to vomit and I was out in public (I was living on a college campus at the time), I would breathe deep through my nose and keep my mouth shut, which would alleviate my sick feeling. I supposed you could always make sure you have something to drink with you, as well as a plastic bag in case you do get sick.
3) I didn't get nausea until the 2nd month of my pregnancy. Even though I felt sick for 2 months straight, like I said, I vomitted only once. The one time I did throw up, it was a one time thing..I didn't keep throwing up. I got out of bed one morning and grabbed the trash can and it was over it. The mornings (right after waking up) seemed the worst, and doctors actually say to eat before getting out if bed since movement makes sickness worse.
4) I'm not sure about your chances..but not all women get sick. If you do, just realize it's natural and it's okay. The sickness won't last forever and your body does all sorts of weird things while you're pregnant to build that wonderful little person you are carrying.
The link I provided gives you a bit of info.
I hope you have a safe and wonderful pregnancy! =)

I never got sick with either of my pregnancies. Everyone is different. Some people never throw up, but they do feel naucious first thing in the morning or when they smell certain foods. You can keep saltine crackers beside the bed and eat a few of them before getting up - -- that might help. And I've heard that if you buy those wrist bands for dizziness/nausea, that they work pretty well too. Even if you do throw up, it won't be too bad because it's not like a stomach virus where you feel bad all over and you're running a fever. Nothing like that! Congrats & good luck!

I have two kids I can tell you about my experiences and hope it helps:
1) depends on you and your body... my morning sickness with bad with my first and virtually nonexistent with my second.
2) Yes, unfortunately it can be just as bad... when I had morning sickness (bad), it was no different than having stomach flu, food poisoning, or drinking too much it was all the same feeling to me
3)again, it depends on the person.. mine was a fast onset of nausea the vomiting right away..then I was okay for a while
4) Depends on you hormones, baby size, what upsets your stomach etc.. Id say about 50/50
You can always ask for an "anti-nausea" medication such as phenergan or tigan, these might help. Also, keep up on your fluids I herd (don't know if it is actually true) but I herd that dehydration can cause nausea.
GOOD LUCK!!!

For me, ( I say that because every person is different ) at first, I was just nauseous for long periods of time and did everything I could from actually vomiting. then, one night I was eating and it came, i felt sick with a motuhful of food.... i couldn't swallow and when i tried to spit it out, i almost vomited in my bowl. So i sat there for a minute and tried to figure out what i was gonna do! I finally got up and RANNNN to the bathroom and my wonderful husband was behind me holding my hair the entire time!

Now the times after that... It just CAME and I almost threw up in the mall... I did in my sister in laws car and then a few times at home.... there was maybe 5 minutes of warning.... BUT I am 12 weeks now and no problems!!!!

Believe me, coming from someone who is also terrified of vomiting, ( I don't burp either... ) It wasn't that bad. and now it is over so I am happy.... just think about it like that, it will be over soon! and NO it is no like you have a virus... you throw up and you feel better... some people for a couple hours... I was good for the rest of the day!

Good Luck

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Not all women have morning sickness & if they do it usually starts at about the 6th week and is caused by the HCG hormone (this tells you that you are pregnant on a test), it lasts for about up to your 12th/14th week.

I didn't have it, just felt nauseated in the mornings. But if you do go on to have it there are things you can do to try and subside it, like eating an ginger biscuit before you get out of bed in the morning. Eating little and often helps also.

I hope you don't get it but remember if you do it will not last forever, and when it goes you will feel really good about yourself & you will be able to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Good luck

when u are having a child the vomiting does not last long. it lasts for about a month and then once you feel the life inside of u u hardly get sick. I also hate to vomit. but once u realize why then u wont mind.and the morning sickness are very small amounts of vomit not like a virus after u eat u will feel nauseus because the baby is digesting too. the sickness will not last!

It's different for everybody.

Mine was just mornings. Mucous, not food. Once a day and it was over. Someone suggested eating crackers before getting out of bed. Only got a crumby bed, still vomited. If I tried to not vomit (because I really hate it, too) I was nauseous until I just got it over with. So, that's the best advice I have. Puke when you have to and get it over with and go about your day. Sorry.

I've also read that it has to do with how healthy your liver is.

Everyone is different. I would only wake up a bit nauseous and throw up a bit in the am. It didn't last and wasn't severe and I only suffered for the first month or so of pregnancy. I have known others to be a bit worse and suffer thru their 2nd tri-mester tho. Discuss your fears with your Dr. He/she can prescribe something for your tummy that is safe to stave off the nausea. Do not be afraid, not everybody has morning sickness. You sound very young, get yourself educated on your pregnancy. Ask the Dr for literature so you can better understand what your body is going thru. God Bless

1. i never got morning sickness..only nausea
2. you throw up because your body thinks there is something in it that shouldnt be when its really your baby. its trying to get rid of it because it knows it isnt supposed to really be there.
3. i only got nausea
4. well..i never did. so its likely.
thats the truth tho. i really never threw up one time. my boyfriend did tho. haha. well ive heard if you lay in bed when you wake up and eat some crackers and drink a little bit of water that can help you not get sick. dont just jump up tho.
