Senator Dodd has proposed legislation that will close Guantanamo Bay prison for all but a couple dozen Al Queda operatives. He says that the rest of the prisoners can be moved into prisons in the US where they will be processed like any other prisoner. He states that the reason for doing so is to try improve America's standing in the world, which is impossible as long as Guantanamo Bay is open, as the tactics that are used there do not adhere to the Geneva Convention. He made the point that the difference between America and other countries is that they adhere to the Geneva Convention, and if we refuse to do so, we are destroying the ideals that America was built on. What does everyone think about closing Gitmo?

That is a great plan. It is plain and simple wrong to emprison someone without any charge. America over the last 6 years has sent a message world wide that for some reason untold, we were exempt from following the rules.

Shut it down

Keep Club Gitmo open. Do you really want these prisoners spreading their liberal love for hate in our American prisons? Geneva rules are out the window if these prisoners are not apart of a countries military that follows the Geneva Convention.

In a way I agree, we should clean out the Gitmo prison, make room for new ones.
These terrorists do not have ANY protections under the Gen Conv! Have you read the Convention articles?
If not, check out Convention III Article 4, section2, we have the right to line them up after we get any info we want and shoot them!
Also, read Convention IV, article 68. We do not have to house them, feed them, provide medical care to them.
So shut up about the poor, poor terrorists and their Geneva Convention rights, they have none, and you are a Lib wanting to hand over america to terrorists.

Closing GETMO is a mistake! The Geneva Convention only applies to those the abide by it, they do not! I proudly display an American flag flown over GETMO, presented to me by Col. Brice A. Gyurisko, Sr.Military Police Commanding in my office. It flew over the base November 1, 2004!

That's just a deal for the prison lobby.

Dodd probably got a house in the Bahamas for saying that.

They should have closed that natural embarassment of inhumanity down b4 it even opened. Think twice if they want to put a prison somewhere else. Just a way to get around the fancy paperwork, bells and whistles, and red tape of torturing in your own country.

Close Gitmo or keep it open?

Irrelevant to me!!

The bigger question is why haven't these people been charged or tried or been given legal representation for 3 years????

What about due process??

That's the question IMO!!!

Too little too late but its a start. America is now the proud owner of its first:

Dictator
Gulag
Lie Based War
CIA Outing by a VP
Defeat By A Foreign Militia
Nuclear N. Korea

Bush should be very proud of his accomplishments.
