soccer games are really hard to find on the internet, usually because the files r too big. however u can still get them if u know wer to look.

in normal downloading, a server sends a file along to one or more client computers. all the clients do is take wat the server gives them. if there are too many people downloading a file and/or if the server is too slow then eventually some ppl's connenction w/ the server will time out and the download will fail.

torrents are a way to download files where anyone can upload files to other ppl using his/her own pc (i.e. they dont have to hav expenisve servers hosting the files.)

a computer "giving" a file is called a seed, while computers trying to download it are called leechers. all the leechers that are downloading the file r called the "swarm" while the leechers AND seeds together are called peers. when a seed starts uploading a file, it splits the file up into "pieces" of a certain size (usually 64K) and gives each a number. this is so that each leecher can know how much of the file they have and which parts of it they still need.it also to makes it possible to pause the download because ur comp knows exactly wich pieces of the file it has and wich pieces it still needs to finish the download.

in torrent downloading, not only does the seed (or seeds) "give" the file to the leechers, but the leechers also give each other pieces of the file that some of them dont have. for example say we have 2 seeds (each with 100% of the file of course) and 10 leechers. one of the leechers is at 70% while the rest are at 0%. the seeds can give pieces to any of the leechers, the 70% can give the 0%'s any part of the file from the 70% he already has, and the 0%s cant give because none of them have any part of the file yet. the 70% therefore helps take some of the strain off the seeds by giving the rest of the swarm from what he has.

when a leecher finishes a download it reassembles all the pieces again according to their order, and runs a "hash check" to make sure the file is complete and none of the pieces are corrupted. it can then become a seed itself and give the file to the other leechers (or just close the connection)

the last type of computer involved is called a tracker. the tracker is wat handles all the traffic between the peers and lets them tell each other wich pieces of the file they need. thats basically all it dus but its the most important computer of all.

to download a torrent, u first need a program called a "client". bitcomet, azureaus, and uTorrent are all good programs u can get 'em free from download.com. next u need a broadband connection. if u wanna dl torrents an u hav dialup then forget it, it will take weeks if not months for u to finish downloading a single file. if u hav a torrent client and dsl/cable then all u need now is to find the torrents themselves. there are a buncha sites on the internet that index and host torrentfiles. heres a very partial list:

be careful tho, a lot of torrent sites hav porn advertisements (not to mention porn video torrents) as well as malware/viruses in the ffiles so be careful wat u download. the good thing about torrents is u know exactly wat ur downloading (i.e. u can see the file extension.) this doesnt gaurantee that u wont get a virus knowing the extension makes things a lot easier. be careful around EXEs, zipped files, or rars, just to name a few. they arent necessarily viruses but those types of files are the most common ways that viruses are sent.

when u find a file u want to download, click on it. u will then download a small torrentfile. note that this is NOT the file that actually want, its just a small file (10-20KB) that gives the client the file info, # of pieces, etc.

after the download is done doubleclick the file and (assuming windows associates the .torrent extension w/ the client that u hav installed) the real download will open inside the client. u will c a window that tells u the tracker address, the # of files in the torrent, etc. click ok and the download will start.

btw u dont hav to worry about any of the crap i just told u, the client takes care of all stuff like hooking up w/ other peers, hash checks, etc. etc. its just important to know how it works, so that if u get a problem an u wanna fix it ull at least hav some clue of wats going on.

as for the soccer games u want u can usually get most premiership, La Liga, Serie A, champions league, etc. on either isohunt, mininova, or fulldls. most matches get uploaded within a few hours after their over, sometimes its a day or 2 before some1 puts up a torrent. the best way to search is by the league name because thats wat most uploaders name their matches by (search for EPL on isohunt.com) as for old matches such as games from the world cup, etc. u can find the torrent all right but usually the ppl who uploaded the file will stop seeding it, so wen u open the file in bitcomet for example it will connect w/ the tracker but there wont b any seeds. the only exception is probably games like the italy vs. france final wich r most likely very popular, so the seeders will keep the torrent going because so omay people want it.
