-so Native Americans speak American? I'm confused. But since you're apparantly so stuck on the past with the whole native american thing, why don't you look up info on the guy who named the sport football almost a century ago.
My theory is that the creator of football realized how lame soccer is, and wanted the name football, so he just took it. Kind of like we took your diginity and the land we call America.

We call it football primarily because you start the game by kicking it with your foot. You also kick (with your foot) field goals and punt returns throughout the game. I do agree that it doesn't make sense to call it Football, when your carrying the ball most of the time.
Why do they call Soccer 'Soccer'? When 99.9% of the time your kicking the ball anyway. Or better yet, 'No Hands Ball'. By the way, I like to watch a good soccer game, too!
The Truth!
Football is the name given to a number of different, but related, team sports. The most popular of these world-wide is association football (also known as soccer). The English word "football" is also applied to American football, Australian rules football, Canadian football, Gaelic football, rugby football (rugby union and rugby league), and related games. Each of these codes (specific sets of rules) is to a greater or lesser extent referred to as "football" and sometimes "footy" by its followers.
In other words, Football was named Football by Foreigners.
Cheers!

I know its weird.
Basketball is called basketball due to the fact that you aim for the basket.
So by that logic, shouldn't 'football' be called 'goalball'?
And continuing that theme, shouldn't 'baseball' be called 'as far as you can possibly hit it (hopefully into the crowd) ball'?!
