i want to paint my nails red for my holiday in India. its my favourite colour & a holiday colour i think. somebody told me that it is a sign of a prostitue in this part of the world. does anybody know if this is true?

You got the wrong information. Many women wear red nail polish in India. Also color red is very aspisious in Indian culture. Indian women also wear red bindi's(on their forehead). They prefer to offer red flowers to Gods. Red Sarees are very popular.
Nothing wrong with red in india. Enjoy your trip and don't worry about your nail polish.

Yes, that's fine. Dress conservatively and don't indulge in shows of affection - that is bad.
