There really isn't a whole lot you can do for a one year old, huh? One good thing about our family is there is a new baby every few months! Literally. I was pregnant with two other family members. lol So, we can be sure that there will be a lot of kids at all of the bday parties. One thing I plan to do is to have a large cake, and then a little replica for my son to go at! lol I'm also going to have all the other moms have their kids bring their favorite toys and just let them all play. Thats pretty much all they want to do at that age, anyway. I'll probably have a baby Einstein cd to play, so the moms and kids can all dance and sing along. Sounds cheesy to us, but it'll be loads of fun for the kids. Something else kids love... LOTS of streamers and decorations to tear up. lol I'd keep the balloons up high, but hang lots of streamers from the ceiling so they can pull on them and run around with them. Remember, kids love visuals. The brighter and more colorful the party is, the more fun they're apt to have. Just have fun with it! HTH

The 1st birthday party is mostly for the grown ups. I would go along with the other answers that it is always nice to do a small extra cake just for baby. Mostly you should just do things as if it were a party for grown-ups. Your one-year-old will most likely tire out long before the guest leave. If you have some children coming over it is always nice to do some gift bags. You can usually find some at Party City, or some similar place, or you could save some dough and just use paper lunch sacks. Party City usually has some cheap plastic toys you can put in the bags, or candy is always popular. Also if there are a lot of kids coming over it is a good idea to have a TV with a DVD player available in another room to keep them entertained. These days if someone doesn't bring your child a DVD as a gift it will be a small miracle. Having a Disney flick going for the kids later on will give the parents a little break and a chance to chat. Take lots of photos. Your baby will have a lot more birthday parties, but this is one of the ones you will always remember.

Depends on if your having a boy or girl. My daughter just turned on last Friday and I spent a TON of money on food. And party bags. I did not have an astro jump and I think i probably should have. I had other kids at the party that would have enjoyed that. But seeing as I paid for most of the party myself it got kinda expensive. Have it at a park if you have nice enough weather. I didn't see a lot of the kids at my party because they were all at the park. You won't break anything at the house and what not.

Keep it simple you don't want to over do it and overwhelm your child. Keep it at a good time of day because you want to make sure that your child is in a good mood and not tired. I did my daughter's first birthday in Pooh Bear. I had her own small cake so that she could stick her fingers in it or her face which ever she wanted to do.

Make sure to take a plenty of pictures. Good memories last forever. It is also a good idea to write down what your baby did in the day in your diary. Congratulation!
