I have the same problem. I'm hoping that me saying, "Pyew, you stink!" will be an incentive. I'm sure the fact that I gag when he kisses me doesn't make him feel very good about himself either.

I have a similar problem - my husband does not smoke, thank God, but my mother does and she wants to be the baby's nanny. At first I said yes but only on the condition that she quit smoking first. Well here we are 5 days before my due date, and she's still puffing away. Though I have come to accept that I can't make her quit, I have decided that I can lay down ground rules, and you can do the same: No smoking in the home or cars, period. No smoking near the baby, even outdoors. Always wash hands, etc. after handling cigarettes.

Nagging and pestering him isn't going to help one bit. Do some research on what second hand smoke does to a baby. Just smoking outside doesn't make a difference. It stays in your skin and can affect the baby just from holding it after having a cigarette. Maybe some solid research and facts will be incentive enough. Definitely don't nag...chances are he'll smoke more just to spite you.

I have the same problem .... kinda..... although he does not smoke inside. I still cannot stand his smell! I can barely hug and forget about kissing him! He also doesn't smoke in the car with me or anything like that. Maybe you should ask your husband to do those kind of things and if he doesn't want to quit when the baby comes then maybe he can continue to just not smoke around the baby!
My biggest problem is HIS family. they all smoke and don't CARE if they are smoking around ME. in the car or in the house, they don't CARE - THAT is annoying!!!!!

Well, the fact is, if he's smoking around you, the second-hand smoke is just as bad for your baby as it would be if you were smoking. He obviously cares more about his filthy habit than he does about the health of his new family.
Second-hand smoke is something I never thought was harmful, and hung out around smokers all my life. I never smoked, myself. Recently, I started having severe vertigo, dizzy spells. They did an MRI scan, and guess what? They found calcifications - growths of calcium like the build-up around a faucet with hard water - on an interior lobe of my brain! The doctors asked if I smoked, as this is common with smokers. I said "No." They asked if I hung around a lot of second-hand smoke, and I said "Yes." That was the problem, they told me. My own private doctor verified this.
My mom smoked around me all her life, and now I have growths on the brain.
So, if this guy doesn't want to quit, he's actually endangering the health of his child, as well as his wife.
Good for you for quitting!

What is it that makes us quit? It took me a long time of feeling guilty about it until I quit. Finally I did. Your pestering him probably doesn't help. Just hang in there girl and keep clean yourself. I bet he makes the commitment before the baby is born. Good luck, babe.

keep throwing information at him about smoking and health. tears might help. make it clear that smoking is not an option. get him the patch. get him hypnotized or therapy or whatever he needs. if your child grows up around him smoking they are much more likely to smoke themselves. If he's ever going to quit, he should just quit now. all it takes is the personal decision to quit. you know that from experience.

Ask him to smoke outside. I'm a smoker, but I never smoke in my house or in my car. I always smoke outside. He'll quit when he's ready, and I hope it's soon.

my husband smokes too .. he said he'd quit before the baby is born. he started the patch again today! yipee! also, I heard that there is a perscription drug you can get to help you stop smoking. This lady I know is on it and it made her quit cold turkey. If the patches don't work for my hubbie ... he's getting the RX!
I've heard smoking can cause S.I.D.S (sudden infant death syndrome) .. and asthma! so no more sigs when baby comes!
good luck to you! God bless!

he has to want to quit but tell him to smoke out side and don't smoke around you nor the baby because it is bad for the both of you and i can understand you don't like the smell so tell him to take a shower and change clothing.
