Hi, I had 2 pap tests come back abnormal. I have tested positive for high risk hpv. My first abnormal pap showed ASCUS, and the 2nd showed mild dysplasia. I had a colpospy done and a cervical biopsy. When he examined me, he said that he did believe i had mild dysplasia. When my doctor called me for the results, he said the biopsy showed no dysplasia, and he just wanted me to come back for a pap test in 3 months. has this ever happened to anyone? what can I expect.

Ya, all but him calling back to say you didn't have dysplasia, that's a good thing. I have to go every 3 months also, maybe it's sooo small it's almost nothing, but just enough to show something, if you can follow that! Good luck, I know how scary it is.

HPV and the cervical changes it causes are all very unpredictable. Sooo many people have it and do not even know it. Like other ppl that have posted here, I too experienced a dissapearence of the dysplasia. Just be happy for the moment but always get checked because you never know when it could reoccur. I would go at least twice a year.

also, it makes sense to see two doctors. i went to one and never heard back about my pap so I assumed it was fine. a couple weeks later i had an unrelated problem so i went to another gyn (a different one that i chose at the last minute) and he ended up doing another pap. within 2 weeks you wouldnt thinks things would change that much but he found an abnormal reading. which led to colpo which led to high grade dysplasia, to another biopsy and then to laser surgery. imagine if i didnt go to that other doctor two weeks later? i would have never gone back until my next regular appt the following year and probably could have been on the road to early cervical cancer by that time. just be watchful.

Absolutely! It happened to me!! In fact, I thought I was the only one! I went to a doctor a few years back, had a pap, and much to my shock, it came back with mild to moderate dysplasia. I was called in for a quick cervical biopsy. I went through a painful biopsy, only to receive a call from her that I didn't have dyplasia. In fact, my doctor was so convinced that I had it, that she had even scheduled me in for the "freeze dry cell" therapy to kill the pre-cancerous cells. When I went back to see her after 3 months, the next pap was normal. She said I still had "HPV", but that it was "dormant". When I went to a new doctor in another state, I had a pap done, and mentioned what my previous doctor had said, and was told I was fine..not even "dormant HPV'. I don't know if this helps you at all, because I am still curious about my situation as well. I just thought I would let you know that you aren't the only one going through it.

Yes...almost exactly the same thing. You didn't give your age (helpful here)..mine started at age 19...I am now 48. I am now to have a D&C and an endometrial biopsy (more invasive than the cervical) and am being put under a local to have it done...should another PAP come back positive, ask if an endometrial biopsy would be beneficial to you. From what I understand, ASCUS and dyslpasia are farily common...and should just be watch with periodic (every three months) PAP tests. Since you have shown irregular cells in the past, make sure your Doctor's lab knows this...and make sure he and they are looking at your past tests to compare them...Also, an internal ultra-sound could also be on benefit to you...I've had serveral...my Doctor likes to do them himself instead of sending me to a radiology lab..as he said he can detect problems better than a radiologist...which is one reason for my upcoming endometrial biopsy...
Good luck! God Bless! And I hope your next PAP is unchanged (or better!)...

I had something like this happen to me in my early 20's. They would have me come in every 3 months to keep a close watch on my cervix. I also had to get my cervical cells frozen as well. After going in every 3 months for 1 year, the doctor said my pap smears were fine and I wasn't required to go in but once a year. It is only precautionary. If you are worried about it , call the nurse at your doctors office and have them explain it to you until you feel like you understand. It is their job!

Was this Planned Parenthood by any chance? They too told me that I had HPV and needed a colposcopy, however I went and got a second opinion and I did not have it.
