I drew my boyfriend a picture for Valentines day... since I couldn't think of anything else. Its a rather cute picture... but I can't help but feel its tacky? I know Valentines Day isn't really about who can spend the most on who... but it feels kinda bad not to be able to buy anything for someone you care about. What I'm trying to ask is... are homemade gifts for boyfriends tacky?

Usually, thoughtful gifts are the most time consuming, thus should be the most valuable; spending time tells the recipient you care, therefore serves well the purpose of gift giving. Would you feel better if you could give him an original home made painting made, for example, by Pablo Picasso?
You see, your issue is not weather your gift is appropriate, but a lack of value you place on your time and creativity. I would suggest a festive setting for the occasion of your gift giving. A homemade cake or a dinner would be super- nice. Show him the picture and see his reaction before you decide to give your gift or not. V day gift aside, try to work on the issue of self esteem and pride in your god-given artistic gift(s). Good luck!

Homemade gifts come from the heart. You can give him-Whatever,But when you sit and be creative he will have a special gift from the heart.Lots of people should have done this instead of trying to go all out.You deserves to be on the top of your game.By the way Happy Belated Valentines Day.

The best gifts, whether V-day or not, come from the heart...anybody can buy a gift but to make one speaks volumes about how you feel about that person.

That's not tacky at all, it's wonderful! I just made my husband a card today because we're on a budget too. He loved it. And I know he means it.
