Why or why not?

No, it shouldn't. People who have no idea of the issues or the candidates really should stay out of the booth. Too many powerful people have been put in place because they reminded someone of someone they used to date or because they looked better or spoke a little more clearly. The people that can best represent their constituency should be the people that get elected.

Also, the wonderful thing about America is that even if you didn't vote, you can still complain.

No, I think required voting is a terrible idea. Some people are disillusioned with the process, so they choose not to vote as a way of protesting the system. Some people dont vote because they feel they dont know enough about the issues or candidates. If you do not want to, you should not have to

I agree with most of those who have answered your question. Voting should be a choice. It is a shame that too many people do not partake in a right they have been granted. Even more disappointing is the number of people who vote that are truly uninformed on the issues and vote a straight party ticket or one only one issue. Then again, it's their right to do so.

Why should American's be forced to vote? If they were forced to vote then that would definitely take away some freedoms. What if there are no candidates that a person feels suitable for the job then why should they be forced to vote for someone that they do not think would even be good for the job?

No by forcing people to vote they will just clog up the machines voting for whoever just to get out of there. Leave voting to those who want to and have investigated who to vote for.

no way!!! do you first of all want freedom? mandatory voting just killed that.
second, do you really want to make someone who is uninformed about something choose a side? heck lets all get 2 chamber revolvers and play 2 person russian roulette

I don't think it should be mandatory because people would resent it & just vote quickly for anybody just to leave

No, this is a free country, some people don't vote because of
1 electoral
2 fraud
3 because none of the above is not an option

no because you have to understand what you are voting for before you vote. I don't think Americans are very educated in politics.
