wouldn't this be considered a blatant mockery of religious symbol?
Is it now going to be acceptable to wear a yamaka as a fashion trend?

I am not Catholic, but I believe that Madonna made it fashionable to wear rosaries when she first started out in the 80's. However, you do see Monks and some Priests wearing them around their sash or belts when dressed.

I would think that they should be respected as a symbol of the Faith, and carried and treated as a Bible would be.

According to many sources there is a long-standing tradition of wearing the rosary and is not considered sacrilegious in the least bit. It's just that people are not used to it. Having said that, it should never be worn a fashion statement, but in reverence and spiritual intention.

I wear it because I like it. And if Yamakas were cute I'd wear one.

A rosary is not a necklace. It is not acceptable to wear a rosary and those who do are disrespectful.
