My house seems to be infested with geckos. Is there a humane way to get rid of them. I hate the idea of just swatting them and killing them. They are harmless but now there are just too many inside.

How is it possible to catch them when they are racing all over the ceiling?

First of all, I think it is great for your to be looking at humane options. Most people, escpecially men, would just kill them however they could. This is a tough problem. If you call a pest company, they may be able to come up with a painless way to exterminate them. I, too, value animals and feel this is a drastic step....killing them. The thing is, even if you were to get a net and capture as many as you can, they are going to keep invading. You need to get rid of them and then make sure they do not have a way to enter your home. Use air conditioners instead of windows without screens, fix gaps in doorways, etc. I live in the U.P. of MI and do not have this type of problem, but have seen these creatures while in FL. If they are absolutely no ways to "learn to live with them", I would call a pest company and inquire about something that can painlessly get rid of them. One Idea i had may be to place citronella candles and scented oils around your home. This will decrease any insects in the home (not saying there are bugs everywhere). It also may have some impact on the geckos. They may be opposed to the smell of the citronella, and with the decrease of food, leave. Try that, get a net to try to eliminate some of the popluation and go from there. You may also want to try to decrease the temperature in your home. This may invite them inside. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I looked all over the internet, but came up with nothing. Another very cruel option is to get a snake. When the lid is off its cage, they will crawl in....If you want them dead, try to do it painlessly with an exterminator. Very good luck to you.

They go whereever there is a food source. Is it possible you have some insects somewhere in the house that they are coming to eat? They also like to have places to hide. Try to close up any entrances to the house, any false ceilings, areas where they can get into walls (around plumbing), etc., and spray to remove any insect food source. You can then try to physically remove some of the geckos and they won't come back if there aren't the food source or hiding spots (hopefully). Good luck!

you can go to a feed and seed store or any other hardware store and get a bag of lime, spread this under the house if it is not on a slab, if it is on a slab, spread or dust the lawn around the house. It works by dehydration, insects dehydrate from lime and the lizards will also, they will leave. No Food, no lizards. If they choose to stay, they will die, but they will leave before they die, This also works to remove roaches, fleas and any other insect. Be careful, lime will dry out your skin, wear gloves and googles, lime in the eyes can blind you, wear goggles. all it needs is a dusting and do not put it in the house.

If your house is 'infested' with them -- they have plenty of food to eat. They would not be staying if they didn't. Just think of the THOUSANDS of bugs that would be crawling all over if they weren't there. I will take geckos any day!!!!!!!

go to your local pet store and pick up some crickets, put them in a tank and leave just enough space for the gecko to get in. they will be content to feed on the crickets until you can put them in another container and release them if they are wild or take them to a local shelter or pet store.

Catch them and bring them to a local petstore. More than likely, they'll take them. Or start a breeding buisness. n.n
