What year will the world end, and why?

Who can say? The Mayans are dumb... just because their calender ends in 2012, doesn't mean that they thought the world ends then... That is a presumptuous statement.

Anyone pondering the end of the world is only inviting confusion and depression into their life. Live like every day is your last, and at least you'll be satisfied when the world really does end.

nobody knows for sure when the world will end. but who says that the world will end? it could go on and on forever. but biblically It says that the world will end when Jesus Raptures the world and 7 years later he takes the remaining Christians that had a second chance. thats when the world will end.

If you are talking about direct intervention by God as described in the situation of armaggedon,---the scenario described is not a human plot, it is instituted by God Almighty, and his Commander in Chief is Christ Jesus as stated here:

(Revelation 16:14) “14 They are, in fact, expressions inspired by demons and perform signs, and they go forth to the kings of the entire inhabited earth, to gather them together to the war of the great day of God the Almighty.”
.....16 And they gathered them together to the place that is called in Hebrew Har–Ma·ged′on."

And at:

(Revelation 19:11) “11 And I saw the heaven opened, and, look! a white horse. And the one seated upon it is called Faithful and True, and he judges and carries on war in righteousness.”.....12 His eyes are a fiery flame, and upon his head are many diadems. He has a name written that no one knows but he himself, 13 and he is arrayed with an outer garment sprinkled with blood, and the name he is called is The Word of God"(Christ-my comment)
...14 Also, the armies that were in heaven were following him on white horses, and they were clothed in white, clean, fine linen"

There is no indication in the Bible of knowing the exact date, even Christ did not have the exact time of intervention by God as in the Lord's prayer---"they kingdom come thy will be done on earth...." Please note:

(Matthew 24:36-37) “36 “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 For just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be.”

The reason is that God has had the ultimate of patience, yet he is not a fool--to let things go on forever:

(2 Peter 3:9-10) “9 Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with YOU because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance. 10 Yet Jehovah’s day will come as a thief, . . .”

I think it was about 3 or 4 years ago when G.W. Bush was elected. But it may have been the day that Bush senior had JFK killed. It was definitely the day the Bushes began to get so much power. For obvious reasons.
