My buddy and I just turned twenty and are planning on moving from our crap town in Florida to California. I wanted to know what would be the best city to move to based on the following: low cost apartments, public transportation, good weather, nearby universities, available jobs, hot girls, and a happening night life. Thanks

San Diego is the best place in CA for that criteria. Housing is cheaper than the SF Bay Area and LA/Orange County. I pay $1375 for a 2 bedroom 8 blocks from the ocean in Pacific Beach, which is considered expensive, and you can get even cheaper rentals farther east in PB or in another part of San Diego. In SF and LA you will pay more to live in a less desirable neighborhood and not near the beach. SD is one of the best deals in CA for housing considering it's location and amentities.

Public Transportation is pretty good in San Diego by CA standards. If you live in the right neighborhood it's not that bad. Someone else asked a question about public transit in SD, read what I wrote and it will help decide the best place to live for it: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ahn_qS86Qh8SKUXs1xjSYRPsy6IX?qid=20070213092531AAiUgE4&show=7#profile-info-AA11688307.

San Diego has the best weather in North America. Never too hot or cold and rarely rains. The weather near the coast is pretty much perfect 90% of the time. Summers are great in San Diego, 77-82 during the day and 68-72 at night. SF's weather is really cool and foggy year round and since you're coming from FL it might be too cold for you. And parts of LA can get really hot in summer. Winters here are really mild and sunny too, 65-75 most days. This weekend it's suppose to be in the mid 70's to low 80's. You can't find any better weather in the US, except for maybe Hawaii.

There are a lot of schools to choose from in San Diego. Tons of community colleges and 4 year universities. UCSD, University of San Diego, Cal State San Marcos, and San Diego State University are the biggest ones. UCSD is one of the best public schools in the country (US News ranked it 7th in the nation) and San Diego State is one of the best CSU schools.

There are plenty of jobs in San Diego, plenty of low-skill to highly skilled jobs available all over the place. It's not hard to find a job here at all.

And the women here are amazing, I grew up in the Bay Area and the women there are nothing special and in LA/OC they are hot but they can be kind of b*tchy and stuck up. I would suggest living in Pacific Beach b/c there are hot girls everywhere there and they are all running around in bikinis all summer long and during the rest of the year too, something you will not find in NorCal. And the girls here aren't all fake and stuck up like they can be in LA and Orange County. They're hot but they are also cool chicks that are just down to party and enjoy the San Diego lifestyle.

San Diego has great nightlife. Downtown SD has tons of trendy and upscale bars and clubs. The Gaslamp Quarter in downtown goes off every weekend and on week nights. Tj is wild and crazy for the under 21 crowd. Pacific Beach has great nightlife too; tons of bars and clubs along the main strip, Garnett Ave. The crowd in PB is younger than downtown and more college kids too. It's more laid back and bars are cheaper in PB than downtown.

I was born and raised in the Bay Area and came down here 6 years ago for college and stayed here after I graduated b/c I loved it so much. There is so much to do year round here, always stuff going on. SD has a much younger and more laid back vibe than the Bay Area too. I would strongly recommend living in Pacific Beach, it's such a great beach town with a laid back, party atmosphere. You can have alcohol on the beach in San Diego, nowhere else in CA allows that so there is always people partying on the beach in summer. The women are so damn hot in PB too. People in SD are also hella chill and friendly b/c everyone here is a transplant, like yourself and myself, and so we're all down to kick it and meet new people. Everyone down here loves it b/c it's such a great place for young people to live, especially for someone like you and what you're are looking for.

Small towns in Northern California have the cheapest rents. However, they will not have all the other things you list.

California is known for having some of the highest housing costs in the US. Large cities tend to have higher rents but they also are the places with public transportation.

You might consider Sacramento...it does have universities and public transportation and it would be cheaper than southern california or San Francisco.

My favorite area would be San Diego...the weather is great and there's so many cool things to do.
