this is canada, but yeah, I was never able to pay - an error on the part of the student loan board caused me to have to drop out after the tuition deadline, in my last semester; I got a job at A&W, and the gov't demanded a minimum payment of 780$ a month, more than I was earning at the time, and wouldn't even discuss either reissuing the wasted loan or smaller payments, so I have no guilt about it. They still send a letter now and then, with no way to contact anyone to talk to, and still want an obscene amount of money. Screw them. As far as I'm concerned, they trick innocent/ignorant teens into thinking all they need to get an education are good grades, then they destroy your life and harrass you forever. (going on ten years here)

6 month from collection agency's and then you lose your federal tax refund till its paid

They take your taxes! they first try debt collectors and if that doesnt work they just have the government take it from you.
