I would have to go with battery farming as being more cruel. If you look back at the times of gladiators, you see that most of them were from the slave class or criminals. They could stand a chance at having a better life if they were gladiators. They got to eat better and were allowed to enjoy women and some freedom. I think battery farming is similar to the worst possible living conditions humans have ever experienced. Cockfighting is cruel, yes, but at least the birds get to eat and live better when they're not fighting.

Firstly, intensive or factory farming is about to be banned in the UK so that solves that problem! Secondly, it is cruel there is no doubt about that, some of the practices by some, not all, of the factory farmers are barbaric. Thirdly, I love chicken and would eat it every day if my family would let me but I buy the free range variety. I think the 95% figure is probably wrong, there are a lot of none factory farmed chickens around now. Remember the birds don't have to be raised in fields to be none intensive farmed, some are raised in barns but in good conditions. It would probably be impossible to meet demand for meat and eggs purely from free range chucks, there'd be chucks everywhere, literaly everywhere!! Fourthly!! Phew!! Channel 4 should be allowed to show it as it is, that isn't irresponsible, however, putting a slant on things either way is. (didn't see the programmes so I can't say)

That sounds like a "lesser of two evils" question. I would have to choose the chicken battery. They have no choice, live a short and brutal life, and never get to do anything they would want to. Not that a chicken has much imagination, but it seems totally cruel.

They ARE both cruel, but each in a different way. ... Your question is of the sort "Is it more cruel if your right or your left leg is cut off?"
Anyway, if I HAVE to pick one, then its battery farming - for meat as well as eggs.
And WHY?

Both very cruel, non of them should be done at all but i think chicken farming is crueler. KFC should be banned, animals should not be killed just for food when they havent done anything to deserve it. They cant speak for themselves, no one can protect them, its harsh.

Well battery farming is obviously about business while **** fighting is seen as a sport (pretty sick)! So I suppose that **** fighting is crueller as it's completely pointless.

Neither. They're stupid chickens and roosters. Do whatever you want to them, cause they're only good for eating and laying eggs.
If this is the only issue you're concerned about, then you need to get out more.
Why not think of how cruel it is to abort babies or let homeless people starve or things like that?
Let's end human suffering before we worry about animals.
