I'm 18 in hs, & i have to say everyone who i know (guys) smoke pot. & i mean like about every week (at least twice a month & those are the tamest ones). People sell them too, & it really is everyone i know. It had nothing to do with hanging around a certain crowd, this is a well-to-do suburb & these people are all well-liked and respected but they ALL do pot. Every guy in my grade who has any friends whatsoever!! (and a ton of girls too)
Am I completely wrong and there really is absolutely nothing bad about doing weed & it's completely normal and does no damage?? It's what they live for it almost seems like. And when they're not doing weed, they're drinking.
I don't do either, but is this normal?? (there is a big emphasis on being normal & against being awkward or creepy in this school, & these people act as normal, cool and real as they can all the time, yet they all do this.)
Any thoughts (if it is completely normal i think it's very, very sad, but apparently im wrong)

There is absolutly nothing wrong with standing up for what you believe in no matter where you live or go to school. If you think it is wrong then it is dont do anything EVER just to fit in and be cool. I think it is great that you have not gone along wiht the crowd. If these people are your friends they will respect your decision and not pressure you into anything. You are the normal one not them although this is the norm for them. YOU are the one who will rise above the influence and make something of yourself and your life. These people are going down a wrong path that will lead only to destruction. Stay who you are and dont chnage for anyone. Good luck and stay strong.

YOU ARE NORMAL & BETTER THAN THEM......I never smoked weed or cigarettes & I was very popular every1 just knew I didn't smoke. I did try weed once BUT I didn't like it so I never did it again....My husband smoked weed alot when he was in highschool but when we were gonna have a baby he quit & never did it again he doesn't even miss it.....He has a great job & if he smoked weed he wouldn't cuz he wouldn't have passed the DRUG TEST alot of companies give now before they'll even higher you....You will get a lot farther in life without drugs...granted weed is the less dangerous drug but it still harms your brain & your lungs....My husband hasn't smoked weed in about 9 years BUT now he still has chronic broncitis & he has asmah now so weed did harm him.......hope that helps BUT don't change who you are for any1 because in the end when your successful in life you'll be passing your old friends waiting at the bus stop cuz they don't have a car or a job.

You are not wrong. It's a good thing you don't smoke it. No one should smoke anything; I think it's stupid how people don't care if they're killing themselves. If they say they can't help it because they can't quit, then the mistake was trying it in the first place. Smoking will almost always become an addiction. And it's not normal for almost everyone at a school to be smoking pot.

People can fool themselves in thinking there is no side effects to smoking weed, but as a former smoker, i must say that there is. The only reason people dont see the side effects is because they havent stopped smoking yet. I definitely affects your memory. I know A LOT of former weed smokers and we all agree that we just cant remember things the way we used to. It also makes you lazy.
So i advise you, be different and keep your system clean, this is only a small effect in comparison to driving while high and possibly killing or injuring someone becuz your motor skills arent at their normal level. DONT DO IT!!!! STAY STRONG AND KEEP SAYING NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Smoking anything is bad for your body (and so is drinking). Don't be pressured to do something you don't want to. You'll soon be graduating and be going off to college or to an actual career. It is true that a lot of people smoke pot, but that doesn't mean it's good. As I said, it is harmful to your body and it's ILLEGAL. Not only that, but now a days, there are people who add additional drugs to pot (called lacing). In other words, you're not only smoking pot, you could be smoking something much, much worse.

You're right, it is sad, they have nothing else to look forward to. I personally don't believe in the word 'normal'. It is what you make it. With regards to you not doing it doesn't make you normal, or part of the 'in' crowd- if you do what everyone else does, you'll be sheepish. I say, set your own standards and follow those. If YOU feel that it's not what YOU want to do, then don't do it. Be your own leader and live your life the way you want to. You're 18 and drug free, that's something to be proud of in this day and age.
Good Luck

It is not completely normal to spend all of your time smoking pot and drinking. It sounds to me like these people will do anything to be cool, including hurting themselves. The best advice I have for you is...Be yourself. People will respect you for it. They may not act like it at first, but underneath they want to be as strong as you are. It's alot harder to be independent, but you will be better off.
People will tell you that pot is harmless. It is most definitely not! Pot is 6 times more likely to cause cancer than nicotine and it is psychologically addictive.

Pot does do damage and I can honestly say I have never done weed or any other drug. But we have learned about it in Health class and my parents used to do this stuff before I was born and it has given them alot of health problems and my mom is the only one I have left since my dad was killed in a car wreck but it still gave him health problems.

First and foremost, normal doesn't exist. It's something that depends on a person's frame of reference or state of mind.
And speaking of states of mind, I've never heard of people doing so much weed, and I'm in college! But I'll try to be as informative as I can. Ready?
There are negative consequences to smoking marijuana; it's just not as bad as doing, say, heroin or cocaine. Anything that alters your physical or mental state has the potential to be extremely dangerous.
Marijuana does not cause emphysema or lung cancer. It's *less* likely than cigarettes to cause birth defects or developmental delays in babies. The mental effects are long term - over time, it seriously impacts learning and memory (by degenerating the structure/function of your neurons). And of course, you have your standard judgement impairment, reaction time decrease, etc.
Those are the facts, so you can make up your mind.
Buena suerte! (And don't do anything ridiculous!)
