The Yankees are by far the best team in baseball. All other teams are just Yankee "wannabees".

The Yankees and Red Sox will always be contenders as long as their payrolls are so much higher than everyone else's.

Other than that, the Detroit Tigers made a good move in picking up Gary Sheffield (assuming he stays healthy) and now have a mean lineup to go with stellar pitching (assuming no sophomore slump for Verlander and Robinson). Likewise, they have a great bullpen to back them up.

Going deeper in the Central, the Twins lost some pitching, but could still manage to be tough. Likewise, the White Sox are pretty much the same team as they have been (with some younger pitching that will need to prove itself). The Indians were a disappointment last year as they did not perform up to potential, and have now got 3 potential closers in their bullpen.

The Blue Jays lost pitching and took a step backwards. The Angels will probably win the West as Oakland also lost pitching and didn't seem to make up for it anywhere. The National League will probably see the Mets on top again, with the Cardinals and Astros (maybe the Cubs could be decent).

It seems to correlate with the NBA in that all the power house teams are in the West, but an East team keeps winning the championship. There are numerous reasons why this could be (in both sports)... but look for the AL to win the interleague play again this year (considering even the Royals had a winning record against NL teams last year... it's doubtful much is going to change this quickly).

I think that the best baseball team this season will be from the NL East. And that team is not the Mets. I think that not only will the Phillies be the best team, they will win the World Series. With the fire power in their lineup, Howard, Utley, and Rollins, good defense, Rowand, Victorino, Rollins, a lights out closer, Tom Gordon, and good starting pitching, Freddy Garcia, Brett Myers, Cole Hamels, and Jamie Moyer, I think they are the team to beat, as Jimmy Rollins said. But not only the team to beat in the NL East, but the NL, and the MLB.

If you are talking about MLB and i suppose you are i think the Boston Red Sox will be the team to beat this year, the young pitcher from Japan is a true ace, (im not even going to attempt to spell his name) with Manny and Big Papi i think they are full of talent, watch out Yankees!!!

the yankees will once again win the AL east and make the playoffs easily. This year they will be able to make it past the ALDS, win the ALCS, and win the world series in the 2nd subway series of the 21st century. with a lineup consisting of old vets like giambi youngsters like cano a defensive specialist like doug minkeiwicz (however u spell his name), and 6 other superstars (damon, JETER, abreu, arod, matsui, and posada. They have a great pitching rotation consisting of Chien-Ming-Wang, Pettite, Moooooose, and (cross your fingers) Pavano. An improved bullpen and the best closer in the history of the game, is there even a question as to who the best baseball team will be? yanks 07 baby....#27!!!!!!!!

Going into this season I have to say the Yankees look sound from top to bottom especially if they bring up Philip Hughes.
