I like it because I like any reason to celebrate. I am single but that hasn't stopped me today!

sounds more like whining to some people ~ particularly the attached ones!
By the way, it's not for me ~ you're just being perfectly normal to ask such question since you're a single (I'm a single too...)!
However, I suppose you know what the answer would be but I believe you're just curious with other people's opinions, right?
Here, I've provided a list why it's rock to be single in this V-Day!
Read on and feel delighted to be a single afterwards!
1- No more worries about buying
presents or wine and dine for V-Day.
All that money you can actually go
getting something you like.
2- Headaches and heartaches (and even
heart attacks perhaps)? Something only
the attached will have to deal with.
You can live without it!
**For guys: Just sing this song - "No
Women, No Cry".
**For girls: Think Destiny's
Child "Independent Women".
3- No cheating, domineering,
insensitive, jealous, insecure guys
who call themselves your loving
boyfriend/ girlfriend!
4- All the time in the world to spend
with your best friends without feeling
guilty.
5- For Girls: You don't have to deal
with irritating body noises (farts
anyone?) which he finds 'hilarious'...
6- For Guys: You can watch all the hot
chicks around without all that whining
and unstoppable nagging!
7- Wondering why he/ she hasn't called?
Why waste all the time by the phone
when you can be out shopping or
watching movies with your best buds?
8- More time to do things you want ~
write in your journal, playing video
games, draw, cooking, fishing, wall
climbing... anything!
9- It's all about ME, ME, ME... not
HIM/ HER! Need I say more?
10- And finally, you get to live life
to the fullest, your way...

Absolutely nothing. I've been married ten years and I'm spending another V-Day all alone while he works. It's just another way for stores to lure consumers into buying more crap that will fill up the landfills and create massive greenhouse gases so that factories can ship this crap all over the planet.
On the bright side, Columbian drug cartels LOVE Valentine's day. They own many of the South American nurseries and use the roses to smuggle cocaine into North America.
Happy Hearts Day, get a dog. I am.

Because you are alive, breathing, not in a hospital bed, not homeless, b/c today is an endless day of possibilities; b/c you can make a difference in someone's life today etc etc.
why is everyone always defining themselves by someone else; so you go buy yourself a box of chocolates ; romance yourself today; make today a day all about just you; pamper yourself, eat chocolates, put your favorite music on; make yourself a great meal; treat yourself, you shouldn't be looking at what you don't have but what you do have; someone will come along but won't find you today b/c you are wearing the world on your shoulders; you will never get this day back again, not this moment, not this hour etc; spend this day wisely ; read a good book , watch your favorite movie, buy a cup of coffee for someone in line behind you just because; go to an animal shelter and walk a dog that is alone and abandoned; donate money to a animal shelter , volunteer; do something for yourself to raise your spirit; this is a day about LOVE; love yourself today; how about family ; did you call your Mom or Dad, a friend; and just wish them a happy valentine's day; go to a senior center and leave a box of chocolates; bring flowers to a nursing home for them to put out for the elderly , this day can mean what you make it ; do something nice for yourself and someone that you don't know; it can make your day and theirs - now that is love - now that is Valentine's day until that special someone can find you and they will ; you have it in your power to share love !!!

"The History of Valentine's Day"
"Every February, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred."
"One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death."
"Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured."
"According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France."
But there's no denying that which ever version you want to follow, they all have one thing in common. This day (February 14th) is in rememberance of a Christian - it is a Church Holiday; being celebrated by non-believers all over the world!

I can understand why you don't like Valentine's day since your single. I hated it when I was single but now I think it's way to over rated and hall mark takes it to the extreme. I just want to spend it with my man. I feel bad for you and other people who are single and I know how it makes you feel to see other people and that's why I think they take it to far and it hurts those who are single.

It's just a commercial holiday for businesses to make money out of everyone. I never celebrate it, whether I am in a relationship or not.

I don't make it into a big deal. A few years ago, my husband and I stopped buying each other presents. We just try to take the day as one to remember those we love......including family and friends. We try to make some time for us, and enjoy each other. All it costs you is some time!!
