just something fun for the show, each episode you would hope they show wilsons face, it kept people tuning in!

It was a running gag. A great one, too. Earl Hindman (Wilson) actually got to show his face on ONE episode, but it was so fast if you blinked you missed it. Sadly Earl passed away a few years ago. But his character was a great joke!

The character Wilson is based on 'Tim Allen' 's childhood memories of when he was too short to see over a fence, and was therefore unable to see his neighbor.

it was a rip-off of a show in the 70's. the door man at the apt where the shows character lived always had his face covered. they discussed this on E true Hollywood stories

It was just an inside joke - coming up with all the different ways to show him, but not his face.
