Well, Ive been wanting my monroe done for over 6 months now and im finally allowed, the only problem is i don't have enough time for it to heal, well i think anyway. I have a week off school and i wanted to get it pierced then, the only problem is i cant wear piercings for school. I was thinking about getting the piercer to change it to a clear retainer after 7 days, or putting a plaster over it but im not sure what to do. Its either getting it done then or waiting another 6 weeks for my 2 weeks holiday break, when i can get it done then. But ive already waited long enough. Please help!! What can i do?

Don't ever put plaster or band-aids over piercings. It kind of suffocates them and can cause numerous problems.

When you get it pierced, you have to leave the initial jewelry, a longer labret stud, in place for about 1-2 weeks. Once swelling goes down, your piercer will swap it out with a shorter stud, but if need be, you could get a quartz retainer, dental acrylic stud or bioplast labret stud put in. Its important that you get a high quality and decently durable retainer.

-Quartz is a treated glass material that can break if you aren't careful, and thats something to consider.
-Dental acrylic is good because its not cheap and pourous like normal acrylic so it can be auotclaved to reduce risks for infection and it won't harvest bacteria either (and yes, your mouth is filthy).
-Bioplast studs are good but they can weaken over time and the backing can broken off after prolonged use. I have a bioplast stud in my Monroe, I play with it a lot and have to order a new one every 3 months because I break it :-X

Another thing is that once the better fitting jewelry goes in, you need to leave it in place for another 6-8 weeks to ensure the piercing heals up with out problems. So you'd be stuck wearing a retainer all the time until it heals, which can get frustrating since you won't really be able to show it off. The main thing is that you keep the piercing clean and go to a good piercer.

In my opinion, get the piercing. Go to a site like bodyartforms.com and look for a bioplast labret stud and just have that put it once swelling goes down. I wish you luck and hope your piercing turns out wonderfully.

Your best bet is to wait until summer, and that's if you're not going swimming. You don't have enough time over break for it to heal, and you can't put a clear plastic retainer in because they're bad for HEALED piercings, let alone fresh ones.

You also can't put a bandaid over it because this won't let the piercing breathe and the sticky residue will attract bacteria.

So you can either wait, or see if your piercer is willing to pierce you with a GLASS retainer. Glass is okay to wear in a fresh piercing and is nearly invisible. These are your two best options if you want to take good care of your piercing.

Please be responsible.

usually the piercer is going to say let it heal for 3-6 months. With the Monroe piercing, I would listen or at least try too. I say do it right after school ends. That way it gives you at least 3 months to take good care of it without changing it out. Then when school starts have him change it to the retainer. Its better to do it right the first time, then to have problems with it.

i had to take my nose ring out only three days after i got it done because of my school's rules. it hurt worse than the piercing itself. and i don't think a good piercer would take it out if it hasn't healed yet. if i were you i'd wait till summer. i know it sucks to wait, but it might be a better choice. if you do go get it done and switch to a clear retainer, clean it alot with bactine.
good luck to you.

legally a school shouldn't be able to make you take it out.
