If a cuople are close I think it's appropriate to give a gift although not necessarily required etiquete. One yr I wasn't sure but being close and living with the boyfriend I just made him a coupon that said redeemable at any time for a full body massage" and he really thought that was cool. If ur trying to break up then that is a different story--and I would not give a gift. hope this helps and by the was Happy Valentine's Day

One ought never feel obligated to give a gift--- gifts come from the heart and if your boyfriend expects things from you then dump him for being so selfish to think he deserves or is entitled to gifts ( or anything else ).
My wife and I have been happily married for almost 9 yrs, been together for 12 yrs and what we give to each other on Valentine's Day is time with each others. We both work in the Mental health field-- she with adults and I with adolescents. Our time together lasts far longer than flowers that die, cany that is gone all too soon, cards that end up in the trash or tucked away never to be seen until we die and that are found by relatives.
Our memories of these times will NEVER die, and it's these memories that come to us if we have an argument so hat we can see how silly arguing is.Good luck to you

Well, it really depends. I think that you should. It will show how much you care about him, which is really important in a successful relationship. And you want him to give you something too, right??
Remember, it's the thought that counts. So a sweet card and a little stuffed Beanie Baby is cute. Maybe chocolates. Flowers, uh, not so much. I say go ahead and get him something so you don't hurt his feelings. It will show that you think of him.

I would not be right not to get him anything especially if he got something for you. It's always a good idea to communicate with your boyfriend BEFORE the holiday to find out his feelings on the matter.

Thats a personal belief if you want to or not. I don't see anything wrong with giving a guy something. He is human and needs love too.

Well, in my opinion, it is up to YOU and only you whether you want to get him something. Think about it, do you think that he deserves a gift from you, do you think that you love him enough to get him something?
In other words do what feel in your heart if you think that he is a good person to earn a V-Day from YOU...

My boyfriend got me a card and I got him nothing. He knows I hate the holiday though so I don't think he was expecting anything from me. And if he was then too bad for him!
