women only. this seems like a choice. I have gay friends and am NOT homophoebic. I just wonder why some gays get upset when straight people say it is a choice. YES i think sometimes it is a choice, and sometimes its not. just like some gay people try to force themselves to be straight, because they dont want to be gay. anyway i hope the 7 yr. old isn't real confused, i love him to death and sometimes he acts really weird, like he's crying out for something

Oh there's a choice alright but I qualify that by saying the choice is to be true to oneself or to hide one's true nature in order to gain acceptance. A person might not even realise that they were gay and marry/ have children.

Where the "homosexuality is a choice" argument falls on its face is when it is used to explicitly state that homosexuals are heterosexuals who have elected to be gay - the truth is that they were never straight to begin with.

carora13: "Sexuality isn't a choice. Expression of one's sexuality is a choice."

That is exactly right. You don't choose to be gay. You're born gay. As for her son, if she's happy then in effect he will be happy too. It's as simple as that. If you feel he's crying out for something pay close attention. It may be because his mother was going through a point in her life where she was discovering something big about herself and he could sense it. A mother and a son have a very close bond so whatever she's feeling, he'll probably reflect that.

So if your friend was not str8 all her life, had a child w another woman by insemination and then decided to choose hetero sex, would you still be asking the same question? One you still be concerned about her son? Do you choose to be str8? You have to learn how to identify and sperate imposters, predisposed from gays and lesbians.

The key word that you used several times in your text is 'sometimes'. You can never make a general statement based on a certain group of people. If the world continued to do that, everyone would be stereotyped.

Of course to the untrained eye, on the surface you might ASSUME she has somehow made a choice.
But what you haven't bothered to do is ASK HER!

I'll bet you anything she's ALWAYS been gay but only RECENTLY accepted this fact.

Why is it so hard for you people to wrap your heads around that concept?

Oh and BTW: Happy Parents make for Happy Children!!

I'm sure now that she's finally accepted who she is, she will be a much happier person for it, which in turn will only serve to make her son happier as well.

Trust me, as a parent of a teenage son, my coming out later in life only served to make him a much more well rounded and happy person. He's quite happy, loves my partner, honest, hard working, a good soul/heart, compassionate and a loyal friend.

No, this won't hurt her son, it will only serve to help him better understand his Mommy.

Of course it's a choice. If I had a sudden fear of having anything NEAR my vagina, I'd choose to be celibate. This woman has been badly burned by men and now wants an easier life. Her child will be confused but much to her horror, will end up be a great heterosexual and she will be a terrifically proud parent of her heterosexual guy - which will probably at some level confuse her!

Because they hide who they are. She was always gay. Society, religion, and family sometimes withholds an individual from coming out. That's not hard to figure out.

Many people choose to make a fuss about sexuality when it doesn't affect them and they can only speculate about how it may affect others.

Many people choose to follow a religion that teaches its followers to persecute people who are different.

Many people choose to do neither.

She was hiding who she was for a long time, now she can be who she is. If this makes her happy, be happy for her.
