Here is what happened: I took my car to a mechanic shop for repair of the breaks. They charged me for break inspection, In addition to, of course, the cost for fixing them. They gave me their business card, which had their web address on it. When I went to their website, I found out that they have said that break inspection is free. What should I do? I do not want to be rude or impolite to them.

I would take a copy of the information
that you discovered, and bring it back to the brake shop.
I am sure they will not want an unhappy customer who could possibly tell others about your negative experience, over $20:00.
dont look at it as being rude, they stated this service so they could gain business and will want you to be satisfied.

How much did they charge for the break inspection? If its money you're willing to lose you can just forget about it. But to save yourself money, print out the part of the website that says the inspection is free, bring a copy of your bill where they charged you for it and ask for a refund. It's not being rude at all - you are the customer and have every right to fight for fair charges. Good Luck!

They gave you their business card because they want your business! It may have just been an honest mistake! If I were to have worked on your car, and I made a mistake on the bill, I would want you to call it to my attention. Just be polite about it and call it to their attention. Chances are good that you will get a prompt refund and a sincere apology. If you say "I think you made a mistake on my bill" they will not think you are rude or impolite.

Print out the web page that says the inspection is free. Take it and your receipt/invoice back to the shop and explain the situation (calmly and politely!). If the person to whom you speak isn't helpful, ask to speak to the manager on duty.

I got news for you... You may not want to be rude or impolite to THEM, but they were rude and impolite to YOU for charging you an otherwise free service.
If you don't stand up now and go over there and get this resolved quite frankly you're a wuss.
Get to it man! It's your right and you're not asking for anything they're not promising on their website! You may find out when you get there that it was an honest mistake!
Good luck, and butch up!

Read the information on the web page carefully, it may be an on-line coupon to be presented at the time of service; however, I would take it to them and show the page.
Try anyway, even if it is an on-line coupon, its worth a shot.
Good luck.

Twenty dollars is 20 dollars yes I would go back and say something to them and don't worry about being rude that's 20 dollars of gas, If they refuse to give you your money back tell them you are going to call the BBB on them more than likely they will give you your money back.

I wouldn't give them any kind of notice. I would sue them for false advertising and report them to the "Better Business Bureau" That way, bases are covered and it will be for free with moola to boot.
