A real vow is a promise...and real vows are kept by both who make them and not just one or the other.

Merely..I would never have used that word in the same sentence..a vow is a matter of principle...that is what is wrong with people today, they do not take vows seriously any more, they are just words uttered form their mouths

To a couple that is already secure in the knowledge of their love and committment, vows are a mere detail.
While they are certainly a social convention - a public confirmation of your dedication to one another - they are still just a detail when compared to the relationship itself.
I take vows seriously. I am a man of my word, but there was never any question about devotion to one another.

A vow is:
An unwavering promise that you swear you will not break.
To KEEP one is where the principles come into play.
Values are also incorporated.
Both of these are rare in Americans these days.
I am American so don't start with the bashing, it is simply true. Divorce and sex is so one can get what they want. Forget the vows.
Vows? What are they? A new brand of bubble gum?

Are you talking about making vows or keeping them? If its keeping them then its a mix of a lot of things. Principles is one of them but its also morals, values, character, pride and many others. People who have these things do everything to keep from breaking them. People who don't have these things only keep vows if they feel like it.

If it's the right person no I guess. They feel it. But to others yes it is just a set of rules they should follow. I hope for others though they they feel the vows not just follow. They should want the vows.

making a vow is one thing and keeping it is another......I think it speaks volumes of ones character if a vow is broken or kept. That tells you a lot about a person on how they value the vows that they have made.

A vow is a promise you make to your spouse and god. They go beyond principles and morals. They are sacred and never should be broken.
