If you were to jump directly downwards from a bridge onto a lorry that was travelling at 70 mph along a road and landed in the lorry would you go instantly from 0 to 70mph with no accleration?

No.

In all probability, you would roll off the lorry and onto the road below. If the lorry was a large open box, you would slam into the back of the box at 70 mph.

you would have almost instant accelleration, and hopefully you wouldn't be thrown from the back of the truck, or kill yourself when the acceleration jammed you onto the back side of the truck you landed into
