Just to name a few. Americans are always shocked they were involved in these dastardly deeds. Then they go into denial mode, saying America is always blamed for things then they start rattling off all the "positives" of America. Positives don't erase negatives.

amen to that one. there is a website called www.mindprod.com this site will make you cringe. america has bombed more countries then any other country that is for sure. american mentality is a terroristic one as well as an axis of evil. the land is good but the majority of the people in this country happen to be evil. ignorance is bliss. when ever a country goes and rises to world super power status they turn to drastic measures to secure their spot. america is not the first country to do these horrible things and certainly not the last. of corse it is not fair and rediculous but before the underdog defeats america this behavior is certain to continue.

I will say this like I have said this many times before, although I'm an American (African American) I've never killed anyone in my life. I don't approve of racism, sexism, or any other degradation to the human race. I wasn't their when the Europeans killed millions of Native Americans, or when the "new" Americans killed civilians in Panama, or during WW2 when Japan was bombed, nor did I participate in the Vietnam war, I wasn't even born yet. I've never agreed with the Iraq war, even when it was popular.... I don't go around blaming the white people of today for enslaving my Africans ancestors, simply because it wasn't them that did it! Anyway you just can't say that Americans are ignorant toward their past atrocities, because the majority of us weren't there committing those atrocities. If you want answers go talk to some war vets, all the other people you just mentioned are long dead. And by your logic just because a person is American he/she has to repent for the sins our ancestors made. You're not going to make me feel guilty about crimes that I didn't commit, as humans we should learn from history not use it to play the blame game. What is your nationality? I bet that your people (using your logic) are also ignorant of their past atrocities to mankind, because almost ever group of people has had some past atrocities, not only us evil Americans.

Simple answer: Exaggeratted human tendancy twards denial and narcisstic pride.

It's not all American's, just the ones who have enough corruption and manipluation skills in them to rise into positions of power, and the ones who are easily manipulated by political propaganda.

The american people need to stop electing powerhungry spoiled leaders who think only of themselves and thier equally corrupt colleagues.

We should give all our current leaders a big dose of lithium and calm them down. Then seriouly take a look at who, how and why the people we are able to vote for got into that position, before this growing worldwide disgust for our country spreads any further.

FYI - I'm American.

You forgot bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki. That was an atrocity too, wasn't it?

Let's not forget Slavery, the Trail of Tears, the Mexican-American war, the invasion of Cuba, etc. etc. etc. Looks like you need to study up on your American atrocities.

I hope you're an American citizen and engaging in your right to free speech.

Of course positives don't erase negatives, but they are still positives.

This country has not yet been around three hundred years, and it has had an overwhelmingly positive effect on the world, and yes, some negative effects. Show me a single country that hasn't had "atrocities" committed in it or by it, and I'll call you a liar.

Let's not forget that England, France and the Dutch started the slave trade, and Christians butchered each other and Muslims for hundreds of years in Europe. Let's not forget the Mongol hordes, or the sack of Rome by the Visigoths, or the Roman invasions and conquests for that matter. Get off your soapbox.

Life is life, and life sucks.

everyone's got their problems and spotty past...america's no different.

but you don't know any of the specific circumstances that surrounded the approval of those decisions. We, as the public, think we know all of the details, but we don't know what goes down in the oval office when they approve these things. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be in charge when it comes to whether or not we drop the atom bomb on Hiroshima or approve the usage of agent orange in vietnam. I think these decisions are based on the hopes that it will save American lives, and put an end to these atrocious wars sooner, rather than later.

If things could have been different, I guarantee they would have been.

It is not the Americans that are ignorant, if you really look at history you would see that they don't even come close to the atrocities that the Islamic world has committed along with the Holocaust that Hitler committed, there is not a country or religion in the world that has done what these two have done to mankind in the past or future, and there were never millions deformed by agent orange, the five you mention is nothing more than propaganda by media and bleeding hearts, it holds no merit or truth.

Why are you singling out America? ALL countries of power have committed atrocities and some much worse than this one. Humanity loses it's aspect when greed, the need to control and have power take over. Finger pointing is really hypocritical of any country except for maybe Sweden.

The United States is a big country with lots of
different people.

Its easy to make generalizations about it as above.

It is certainly true that our educational system is
in trouble - and that's certainly going to add to
some of the trends you're pointing out.

"The Misdeeds of the US" is not a history unit in US schools. What is truly sickening is the claim that the US is a "Christian nation". Christ's followers are neutral in political matters, subjecting themselves even now to the Messianic Kingdom that will crush all others very soon and bring everlasting peace.

i *personally* was not involved, and not born for most of them. Native American genocide technically occurred BEFORE there was a country of America, also.

i feel bad about it, but wtf can i do?!? and they're mostly in past & no one can change that. other countries have done bad things also, almost all of them.

so what are we supposed to do? constantly apologize for the actions of some americans in the past & present? what WOULD really "erase the negatives"? nothing can.
