My snails shell is thin and is getting brittle. Can anyone tell me what is causing this? Also next to his 2 tentacles he has the long thich arm looking thing that comes out every once in a while. Its kinda weird.

The brittle shell is from a lack of calcium in his diet. Fresh greens such as mustard, collard and turnip are favorite treats of snails and contain plenty of calcium. Just rubber band them to a small rock and leave it in the tank over night. Remove any left over in the morning. That should take care of it!

He has a water fungus thats eating his shell, are any of the other inhabitnats affected by anything such as finrot, finrot is when the ends of the fishes fins look like somthing has been nipping at them. I suggest you take the lil guy out put him in a bowl or other tank with clean water that has been decloronized and treat him with some meds from the pet shop, if he is sick it wont affect everything else in the tank. Also somtimes the petshops sell you stuff that is infected because of bad living conditions up until you buy them. Good luck!

Brittle shells in snails can also be caused by the water being too acidic. Did you check the pH of your water?

lack of calcium as others have said, although just calcium rich greens didn't work for mine, so if it's not enough for your's try getting liquid calcium for marine aquariums and adding that. it's helped mine wonderfully. and yes, mine are all freshwater tanks, the calcium is made to help coral, which is why it's made for marine tanks, but most brands don't have any additives that are dangerous to freshwater tanks, just check the label.
as for the arm, it could be one of two things. it's either the the siphon or you have a boy snail that like to show off, which is common for boy snails. here are some site with pictures for reference:

for sure. did you recognize that in France they placed salt on each and every form of snail to kill and eat the snails.the following i imagine this can help you position your gold secret snail in seprate water and pour salt in the tank the position the different snails are.After the snails are useless throw the snails in the trash and pour the saltwater in the sink.
