The reason for his audition was sentimental but he was way over the age limit. I think it's like 26 or 28. All props to the man, though. I'm sure his wife was smiling down on him from heaven!!

Yup, Taylor Hicks was under 30, the maiximum age and the elderly guy did it for a lark. He KNEW he wasn't going to get on the actual competition. Just like the really obese African American woman in the bright yellow outfit that insisted on showing us her "front butt". They got on TV and that's what they really wanted.

The American Idol age cut off is 35. The old guy asked special permission so his dying wife could hear him sing her favorite song. He was given permission to sing (not audition) but his wife passed away a week before his performance.

taylor hicks was like 30 some or whatev, its just the hair. sherman was 64, and he just wanted a spot to sing. he did way good.

OMG! When he sang his song I started to cry, it was so moving. I couldn't be in a show like that, if my significant other just passed away. That took guts.
I wish the starting age was 16 on up. That would make for an interesting show.

TAYLOR HICKS WASN'T PAST THERE CUT OFF AGE. CUT OFF IS 29. THE OLD GUY WAS IN HIS 60'S AND ONLY DID IT AS A TRIBUTE TO HIS NOW DEAD GIRLFRIEND.
