You close your eyes to concentrate, and focus on what you want.

wishes, especially something that is most desired, are often related to closing one's eyes.
reason could be that to visually think of something to perfect, i mean perfect, clarity with certainty, one needs to concentrate with no distractions to foul it up.
how can one do that with the eyes open?
wouldnt you want your wish, especially if it was your one true wish, to be as perfect as possible?
