I was gung-ho about the war at first.
In fact, the NEO-CONS who run the White House and foreign policy advocate invading many of the Middle Eastern nations.
At first, I was all for it.
But now -- I feel the invasion of Iraq shouldn't have happened the way it did.
We could have just contained the Middle East and did various other things to remold the Middle East. We don't need to be forcing democracy on Middle Eastern countries so Starbucks can open up coffee shops down there.
What's the point in waging a war overseas when this nation is daily being invaded by illegal aliens? And our good-paying jobs are being given to legal immigrants imported from overseas who'll work for less than you or I?
America as you know it no longer exists. It's nothing more than an economic zone ruled by corporate America.

I'm not gung-ho at all. As a conservative who lives in a MAJOR military community, these are my friends and family at risk. But sometimes, war is necessary.
Why wasn't anyone angry with Saddam for violating the treaties he signed after the Gulf War? Didn't that alone give us the authority to go back?
Fang - doesn't Chelsea owe us some service, too, using that logic?

Great question. I believe those of us that have never experienced death and the smell of rioting bodies first hand are more gung-ho then those that have.

Not at all true. Almost my whole family has served this country. Current war included. It has nothing at all to do with being GUNG-HO for war. It's about preserving our freedom that all of us had come to expect as Americans - Freedom is not a right but a privilege, and sometimes we must fight for that privilege!

It's striking that of the chicken-hawks banging the drums for war in Iraq and Iran, almost none of them have served in the military (the one that did join a semi-military group (the Texas Air National Guard) went AWOL) where as some of the loudest voices against the war are veterans, serving members of the armed forces and the families of military personnel killed or injured in battle. Tells you a lot doesn't it?
It is one of those odd but true facts that having conscription reduces war. It is easier for a country's leaders to start a war and send soldiers off to die if it is only volunteers (i.e. mostly people from lower income and minority backgrounds) who are being put in harms way. If their kids, and the children of the rich stand an equal chance of being sent to a conflict zone and getting blown to pieces as the children of the poor, politicians seem to be less inclined to attack others. I say we reintroduce conscription, allow no exemptions, and start by drafting the kids of Bush, Rumsfeld, Blair etc, followed by anyone who starts banging the war drums - if you're so keen on attacking another country, you send your kids over to bleed and die.

I think there is a lot of aggression and anger in the US that people don't know how to handle except to commit crimes on each others and fight .
With all the violent video games and movies , the next step is WAR

Some are gung ho because they are so addicted to party allegiance that nothing will change their minds as long as it is what the party says it should be.

i does no longer say known besides the undeniable fact that that is common... society immediately glorifies violence and receives youngsters to prefer to wrestle... besides the undeniable fact that maximum persons that prefer to wrestle in a conflict do not after that first round cracks over your head. Ive had a pair era of kinfolk which have fought in wars and it does no longer sound relaxing, besides the undeniable fact that i'm leaving in decrease than 2 weeks for Marine Corps bootcamp with an Infantry settlement. i do not unavoidably prefer to wrestle in a conflict yet that does no longer advise i will not gladly again my u . s . up in situations of conflict, plus i prefer to keep my kinfolk custom in the Marine Corps going. imagine deep and attempt to come across a minimum of one or 2 different causes you want to serve to boot conflict. once you discover that reason bypass ahead and meet up.

We experience it constantly in glorious movies that show what true heroism is all about.
Oh yeah and video games.
I do think that somewhere along the way the fact that we are all humans and that life is precious got lost in the shuffle.
