I have a 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan and lately, it won't go into the right gear.. When it is in the right gear it makes a winding up noise and then it goes back down to first gear. My rpm's are usually at 300 anymore. I know it has something to do with the transmission but does anyone know what exactly it is and how do i fix it for little money?

The clutches are probably wore exsessively check the fluid if it dark colored dark brown or black then its time to rebuild or replace! And just to save you money dont change the fluid & filter if it has a lot of miles on it! All that will do is wash off the clutches, bands, etc. and then your in the same boat! Yrs. experience in tranny shop!

First things first. Check the fluid level. (engine running while in park.)Be sure that there's no metal shavings in it. That would be a very bad thing.
Next check the mass air flow sensor. It's on the air filter housing. Make sure it's clean and plugged in.
Then, if that don't do it have the filter changed and the vaccum control module checked.. After that you're basically screwed and need to put it into the shop.

your van probably has 100K+ miles on it, right? it seems like the transmission isn't effectively using the engine's torque to keep the car operating at the correct speed. if it's slipping out of gear your planetary gearset is probably out of whack. it'd would be easier and probably cheaper to get the whole thing replaced.

It may just be a dirty transmission filter, try changing the fluid and filter. Thats about $50.oo if you do it yourself.
